Colorado flood towns may come back less diverse

Carmel Ross, 66, an artist and caretaker for the elderly, thought about the town's future amid the splintered trailers that now surround the mobile home she rents for $430 a month.

"Who rebuilds a trailer park?" she asked, laughing through tears. "Lyons is going to become a different story now. It's a loss of a way of life. The things could always be bought again, but there will no longer by any low-income housing in this town."

Former mayor Tim Combs said the new Lyons might look more like Aspen, a tony, celebrity refuge that began as a working class hamlet.

"It's going to upgrade the town. We're going to see nicer houses replace a house that wasn't so nice," he said. "Lyons is surrounded by protected open space, so there will be no place for the poor people to go...."

...Lyons residents were told at a town meeting Thursday that it might take officials six months to restore drinking water and working sewage...

...Residents of the even more remote community of Jamestown have been told it could be a year before they can return.

..."Nobody wants to see those McMansions built that people live in only three weeks of the year," he said. "But it's the way this country works — the poor people are always getting pushed out, with or without a flood."

$430. A company I worked for years ago wanted to transfer me to Denver. I went up and looked around. I found 3/2 trailers on 1/2 acre renting for $1,100/month and up. Needless to say houses were higher so I opted to stay in Texas in my custom made 2200 sq. ft. rock house and acreage that was less than $1,400 month mortgage.

Sell the government controlled land to allow individuals to build new housing ?

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)

What is sad about this is the people who had homes already paid for or who make their payments but have to live very modestly cannot afford to rebuild. I live in a smaller town not far from Lyons. It was a great little town. I could live without the 2 pot shops on main street, so cleaning them out was probably a good thing. But I do feel for the working class people. In my town, housing is absolutely exploding! We moved to this town last year because it was a quieter town like the one we left back in IL. But all the new construction is in the 300-600+ range. There is no one anymore who builds houses for the moderate income people and I don’t think that’s fair for the people who can afford to make payments but just not $1800/month. Must we always have these enormous monstrosities being built? How about a nice cottage community? NOT condos.

Send the illegals back.

The illegals grab housing, medical services, school room space ... and add to the crowded roads with their vehicles.

A past friend who lived in Evergreen showed me home sites burned out and nothing was rebuilt in any direction for miles.

The Open Space Program is how Colorado is being communized.

They can either elect people who will sell the state lands or they can go down their present path until they are merely communism’s ‘proles’ in the Sheeples Republic of Colorado.

Part of the UN Agenda 21.

The low information fools vote for open space to save the ______ ; then they need more affordable housing : aka government run, owned, managed ... property that is filled with more low information fools who vote for every tax increase imagined .

The fools do not pay taxes, thus they are happy to vote to spend other peoples money on every useless idea around.

Get ready for ** free ** high speed rail up I-70 ( Denver / DIA to Breckenridge ) at very steep grades.

Here’s what’s really been happening on the CO Rockies for decades. The bipartisan creme of the crop (all on large incomes directly or indirectly from government debt and waste) made the regulations against reasonably sized houses, against agriculture (recently passed animal protection law affects agriculture, too), against producing anything of good use, against all that is good.

Keeps the Range nearly exclusive to their kind. Nearly all of the lots with usable water rights are ruled over by socialist homeowners’ associations. Spying between commie-minded neighbors, gossip and false accusations are the common norm. There’s government housing (pretty ho’s and kids only) in some of the small towns for the purposes of counties getting more of that gold from federal funding (on top of the tens of millions that they get for the tiny, local, upscale schools).

The default process will eventually solve the problem (see future layoffs, contractor office closings, repudiations against pensions), but the bipartisan socialists on the Range will be the last to go (more equal than the other more equal animals of lower places).

Not very pretty or conducive to being a liked member of the in cluster, is it? Too bad. I fix and build complicated, heavy, dirty looking technical things for myself, too.

Boo! ;-)

Re that tip on high speed rail, I see that and raise you pigs will fly and the price of hog bellies will go sky high.

;-)

Not to worry, we will be providing bacon to the low information voters.

Got dependents?
