A seventh-grade student in Virginia Beach, Va., has been suspended from school for playing with an airsoft gun with a friend in his front yard while waiting for the school bus.

WAVY-TV reports that 13-year-old Khalid Caraballo will find out soon if he will be expelled for "possession, handling and use of a firearm" because the guns were fired at two others playing in Caraballo's yard.

The school's so-called "zero-tolerance" policy on guns extends to private property, according to the report.

"It's on your school record. The school said I had possession of a firearm. They aren't going to ask me any questions. They are going to think it was a real gun, and I was trying to hurt someone," he said.

The idiots who run the school don't even know what a "firearm" is.

I think she meant to use the word “responsibility” rather than property.

Yeah - probably. But I still scratch my head when I see people say these things... gone are the days of being in control of our own destiny ... at least in the thinking of a lot of people.

Go after the teachers and school officials that have children, for playing with toy guns. On THEIR property. You can bet they are out there.

Go to their houses, their offices, where they hang out and intimidate them at every turn. Time to put these assholes on notice.

Turnabout is fair play.

Looking at the actual letter from the school, we find the real reason:
In the course of the investigation, conducted in concert with a police officer and the school division Office of Safety and Loss Control, we identified the children who were firing pellet guns at each other and at people near the bus stop. Several students verified that they had been hit by pellets and had the marks to support their claims. In one instance, a child was only 10 feet from the bus stop and ran from the shots being fired but was still hit. Another student claimed to be shot in the back while running away during a previous incident Wednesday, Sept. 11. This child was also shot in the arm and head during Thursday’s incident
He wasn't suspended for having an airsoft gun. He was suspended for assaulting other kids waiting for the school bus with it.

Does the school claim that with this rule that no child in their district can go shooting or hunting... EVER? Wanna bet this stupid rule is about to be modified... whoever conceived it, approved it and tried to enforce it should be publically named and sacked. Sheez.

While visiting the campus this weekend I watched several students and a few profs and staff have a large nerf weapon battle on the quad. They take their Humans vs. Zombies ARG seriously and practice often.

Are there any articles about this event?

There is no use grousing about these abuses, start a fund and use it to sue the living daylights out of government officials that engage in this conduct.

Is there anything comparable to the Pacific Legal Foundation in Virginia?

LOL, the Liberal mindset has conquered the USA. When I was in 7th grade we all had water pistols, we would hide them in our brief cases with jars of water to resupply. This whole no tolerance is BS. I can’t think of any of my classmates ever growing up to be gang shooters or any kind of criminal. Even our doddles on/in our loose leaf books had drawings of cowboys or war scenes. Our #2 fingers were gun barrels if we didn’t have anything else. At what point will we stop the insanity? I even had a Roy Rogers cap pistol in my briefcase in 5th grade. Here I am 65 years later and I still don’t have an arrest record of any kind. Boy did we miss out on all the neat stuff like those air soft guns, we had to make our own out of wood cartons and rubber bands to shoot pieces of linoleum. (We also knew how to make guns from car antennas, but I won’t go there, it was an inner city thing.)We were definitely a tougher generation of kids compared to those of today.

“Pellet guns”

I call BS! I know of no pellet gun that would only leave a mark. All pellet guns and bb guns would penetrate skin leaving a wound requiring medical attention. The school is lying to cover their asses.

Un-f%$#*^g-believable. And anyone in any official government capacity wonders why they're loathed, despised, and hated by the masses?

If our society had been as twisted back then, elpadre, you and I would’ve been hauled in on the first day of summer vacation, and not just for gun use!

When I was a kid, Gunsmoke and Combat were on TV. Combat was great! Lots of action! We’d dig trenches in the sandbox, plant land mines, throw grenades; and the cowboy and indian stuff went far beyond Doc and Festus being held hostage in the Longbranch.

How about tying a “bad guy” to a tree (no, not by his neck!) and kicking his “horse” out from under him? And I’m a girl! What do you think weasels like these would’ve thrown at us back then? “Book ‘em, Dano,” doesn’t even come close!

These tools were playing with Barbies, while I was using her head as the ball and her body as the bat... well, sometimes. By the way, your screen name would have been perfect for a Gunsmoke episode. :-)

The document you mentioned can be found linked on this website.
http://www.wavy.com/news/local/va-beach/has-zero-tolerance-gone-too-far

this letter was not mentioned in either video although the longer video tells about the 911 call on Sept 9 and caller says he is in his yard. about 3:20 min

There is also a link for the 911 audio on the page, but I can’t get it to work
