As he reminds us so often, Ted Cruz is really smart smarter than the rest of us and so it may well be that he's pursuing the smartest route to the presidency in this age of degringolade. (That's a super-smart term, one Cruz might use, meaning "the rapid collapse of the old power structure.") Cruz realizes, maybe more than the GOP leadership he is taking on, that the future of the fractious Republican Party is completely in play. The House- and district-directed GOP base no longer cares at all what the "national leaders" or strategists in Washington think; national contenders who traditionally might have had to earn their way to the nomination a la Mitt Romney or Mitch Daniels are no longer treated with much respect. Even Marco Rubio, not long ago a wunderkind insurgent himself, is coming off like a jaded Washingtonian fuddy-duddy these days compared with the Cruz Express.
For sheer brazenness, there is nothing in memory to compare with Ted Cruz. If Barack Obama set a new bar in the Democratic Party by grandstanding his way to the presidency after only two years in the Senate with less political experience or accomplishment than almost any major candidate before him Cruz is outdoing even Obama in his flagrant attempt to create a national reputation out of literally nothing, with less than one year in office. He's Sarah Palin with an Ivy League pedigree, and apparently even less shame.
By all appearances, Cruz's main objective is not to take on Obama and the Democrats....

The Atlantic apparently got that huge gov’t axe grinding subsidy after all.
boring & predictable mush from a hack
He and Paul don't vote "present".
The left is throwing hissy fits. The GOPe is scared to death.
All because of one Senator who stands by his principles.
Cruz is a real world-class lawyer, not a community organizer.
David Frum pasted the Conservative paper label to his pink forehead so that he can alternately be a dartboard and be held up as a Real Thinking Conservative to push leftist policies and disarm independents. I don’t think he is actually stupid so that leaves devious.
It’s 3:42 AM, Central time, and I’m still listening to Cruz and Lee. God Bless them for what they are doing. They are masterful. Phone calls to my Senators and Representative first thing in the AM.
remember to use Senator’s district numbers - many of them have shut down DC phones
B*****ds! Thanks for the reminder. Luckily, a State Rep gave me a fresh copy of the Blue Book Friday night. I haven’t even put it away yet.
(In Wisconsin, the State Legislature publishes a “Blue Book” every 2 years which lists the addresses and phone numbers of all elected Wisconsin officials, as well as some appointed offices. They are free to constituents and supporters. Handy item to have.)
My response to all the inside the Beltway pantywaists fretting over Cruz upsetting the elite power structure; “burn baby, burn”.
The ultimate dream for a century of committed leftists (of which Hirsch seems to be one) was a national i.e. socialist health-care plan that would destroy all private health-care plans and the insurers as well. Obamacare will fail, but it paves the way for the ultimate, socialist dream of single-payer i.e. government-run health care by which every citizen can be controlled by a central authority. Which is why they hate Cruz so much.
