Posted on 09/25/2013 6:44:18 AM PDT by DJ MacWoW
With a potential government shutdown looming in less than a week, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas said it would be nonsensical for his fellow Republicans to support any effort to bring government to a halt over the health care law.
I don't think it's a good option, Perry told The Fine Print. There's still time to sit down and try to fix Obamacare.

Which, sir, is why you didn’t get to first base in the GOP primaries.
Since when has the GOP elite been right about anything in the last 14 years anyway?
“There’s still time to sit down and try to fix Nazism.”
You cannot “fix” the unfixable.
I like Perry but he did support the establishment candidate over Cruz in the election. He is wrong. Why do they only think in terms of fixing a bad legislation? How much fixing ever gets done in DC?
Perry is clearly the same assclown we saw 20 months ago. He will never be president.
I agree but they’re slow and haven’t caught on yet.
Exactly who is clamoring to “fix” it, Gov? Never mind doing it over the next 5 days.
The value assessment here is this (aside from the obvious government control issues): what is going to do more harm, a temporary shutdown or the full implementation of the ACA? ACA will take billions out of the economy and (essentially) permanently place the government in a position where they cannot balance a budget. That’s why this is vital.
“ole pointy boots” has turned out to be a big disappointment for Texas.
The Republicans don’t seem to understand that you can’t make garbage smell like a rose garden.
At the very least, Ted is succeeding in smoking out the RINO vermin with his filibuster.
Fixing tyranny. More efficient Death Panels.
Hey, Yahoo, what does Perry think about Obamacare itself? What does Perry think about raising taxes? What does Perry think about expanding the size and scope of government?
Republicans will never figure this out.
The only time the dinosaur media cares what they say is when they say something that either supports Obama, whether it be the amount of golf he plays, or otherwise pulls the rug out from under fellow Republicans.
Didn’t Texas just shift their state retirees to Obamacare?
Well, add Perry to the Rove list for now.
What is it about Republicans the last few decades that make them so limited in their ability to fight?
“Oops.” What a clown.
So Perry wants to “fix” Obamacare? Aye carumba...
He's becoming a Zeno's Paradox socialist. If each political step from the GOPe gets you halfway to socialism, they claim that you will never actual reach socialism.
Right there is your problem Perry... putting the word "defund" in the same breath as "shutting down". Nobody should be talking about shutting anything down. Everybody should talk about defunding. The feral government IS funded. The only ones speaking of shutting anything down is Reed (sick!) and 0' and the 'Rats, if they do not help pass the CR funding just about EVERYTHING, nor if they do not help pass, short of that, the single-issue spending bills sure to follow.
So the Democrat party should not shut down the government because of their devotion to Obamugabe’s Death Panels.
Seems like if you can’t draw Perry a picture with stick men, he isn’t going to understand.
I think they have shut government down before.
That’s right, Rick Perry. Why don’t you call Harry Reid and let him know.
Thanks Perry, that was a very helpful comment. /s
So Rino Grahamnesty now is against Obamacare. What a laugh.
Sen. Graham: If Obamacare Succeeds, Hillary Will Be President

Amid coverage of the U.N. General Assembly and Sen. Ted Cruz’s marathon speech on the Senate floor, the missed story Tuesday was Hillary Clinton’s decision to “own” Obamacare, says Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Bill and Hillary Clinton are “selling it as hard as they can sell it,” Graham, R-S.C., said on Fox News Channel’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”
“I will never call it Obamacare anymore,” Graham said. “I’m going to call it Clintoncare.”
Hillary Clinton defended Obamacare during a panel discussion at the Clinton Global Initiative in Manhattan, calling those trying to defund it a “noisy minority,” Politico reports.
Self-interest. You don’t get rich going to DC by opposing the agenda.
The truth is it’s Obama who is threatening to shut down government to save Obamacare. That all these Pubs accept their opponents definition shows how stupid and whipped they are.
Shutting down Obamacare is the desire of The American people.
Shutting down Military pay is the goal of Obama, Reid and Pelosi.
The litmus test for future membership in THE NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY is lack of fear of being blamed for trying to shutdown Obamacare.
Gov. Perry by showing his fear of being blamed for shutting down Obamacare has chosen to stay in the Old-Style Republican Party, the obsolete Surrender Republican Party.
Thanks for eliminating yourself, Gov. Perry, from being considered a Conservative opponent to Obamacare.
There’s still time to sit down and try to fix Obamacare.
Naive fool. Another idiot Republican who thinks he can compromise with Democrats.
Cornyn has to go. Glad Perry is soon gone.
La Raza Rick Perry is cut from the exact same open borders and free medical care for illegals cloth as Rubio.
He isn’t a good answer for anything.
Right there is your problem Perry... putting the word “defund” in the same breath as “shutting down”.
Perry incorrectly conflates the two issues. He gets easily confused as we all know.
that statement will come back to haunt Rick Perry re his presidential aspirations
Realistically, there were only two chances to stop 0bamacare. National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius was one, the electoral defeat of 0bama was the other. Now the damn thing has become, as Harry Reid says “the law of the land” and it’s going to be so entrenched in American society that it cannot ever be dug out.
No Child Left Behind
I applaud Ted Cruz for what he’s doing, and even if only as a matter of principle every member of the GOP should stand with him. The fact that something bad is going to happen doesn’t mean you have to go along with it. Wrong is wrong.
But, alas, after the twin losses last year, I see where this country is going and I don’t like it.
The GOP caved and allowed carve-outs for Congressional staffers (via subsidies)
Why? because the GOP wanted exemptions for their staffers ,too.
Which GOP senators were opposing their staffers from being exempted?
Rick Perry, buh - buh. Doofus.
I think its a poor option myself but what choice do they have? If something is not done soon Deathcare will be so firmly entrenched it will be really hard to get rid of it. Then when it collapses as it surely will we will all be forced onto a single payer system.
So tell Harry and Barack to pass the House Bill and tell them NOT TO SHUT DOWN THE Gov’t!
That was Romney and the Republican party’s problem too. They only wanted their unconstitutional plan instead of Obama’s unconstitutional plan.
Then tell Obama not to do it, Stupid Rick.
they voted against it and then they vote to fund it.
That is how stupid the establishment is.
Fix obamacare?! NO, you scrap it and start with a plan consistent with the constitution and capktalism. Dammit Gov. Rick, what a disappointment you don’t get this.
I was a strong supporter of Rick Perry but I part ways with him on this issue. I’ll be rallying around Ted Cruz in 2016.
I am a Palin supporter but liked Perry. This is very disappointing.
OTOH, the man that got to home base in the GOP primary had previously implemented Obamacare in Mass.
He got there through cheating. We had FReeper eye-witness accounts of that. I wish that I had bookmarked the posts. The surrender monkeys in the GOP hand picked him just like they did McCain.
When the source is Yahooooo, not much truth is required and quotes are usually taken out of context. Shutting down the government in less than a permanent fashion is probably never a good option, but there may not be a better one on the table.
Evidently he didn’t cheat enough because he lost to Obama.
