What we just saw (The battle is now joined)
National Review ^ | 09/25/2013 | Michael Walsh

Posted on 09/25/2013 9:11:59 PM PDT by ReaganÜberAlles

"In the aftermath of Senator Ted Cruz’s epic performance on the Senate floor, a few observations:

After his disgraceful attacks on Cruz, including his reach-across-the-aisle, dog-in-the-manger response today, this should be the end of Senator John McCain as a voice of influence in the Republican party."

"Win or lose, the battle is now joined: First the struggle for the GOP and then the battle for control of Congress and the presidency. Cruz just struck at the kings he could reach — the Republican “leadership” — and has most likely dealt them a fatal blow. Now the Tea Party hordes must back him up by eliminating his opponents"

A dog in the manger is a person who selfishly withholds from others something useless to himself or herself.

i.e: McCain

Good on NatRev, though...

Between immigration and the attacks on Cruz, I’m not sure 2014 will be a good year for “Republicans”.

“Good on NatRev, though...”

NRO lead editorial promotes replacing Obamacare with some type of socialist lite plan.

To add insult to injury, NRO columnist Jonah Goldberg’s article compares Ted Cruz to Barack Obama and assumes that every forged credential Obama has is real when making the comparison.

In other words, a pox on NRO.

McCain has shown himself as the sanctimonious bureaucrat he has always been. Government above all else and the arrogance to go with it.

What this also shows is the utter contempt these same bureaucrats have for their constituents.

Both parties are totally bought and paid for.

Did McCain just get abandoned by the National Review? Next he’ll lose the WSJ nerds. Then Politico won’t even bother publishing his ravings.

I watched 3 hours of ole Ted last night. Quit at midnight then picked him back up this morning. My god! He said everything I could only dream about
saying. His reading the riot act to the old corrupt pubbie geezers that have been there way too long made me feel like Double R had risen and was back in the Oval Office. In other words, listening to Ted was like listening to Double R ! Take care of yourself Ted!

My senator, McCain, has stepped in it once too often. No longer tolerable.
Author Walsh sounds as pissed off as I am.

I saw a video where McCain made a very important point. When he was told he was basically acting like a traitor by wanting to provide aid and comfort to the Syrian terrorists, McCain simply told the accuser to run for office. McCain made the point that he was, in fact, recently re-elected to office and had won office eight times.

So what does this mean to me? It means the RINOs have very little fear. As bad as McCain is, you can’t argue with his logic. We really, REALLY need to make some entrenched politicians—in both parties—taste their own blood by ballot box. Until then, they have every right to believe it is they who are serving the will of those who elected them.

So say what you will about McCain—I strongly dislike the man—but he was elected many, many times. That says a lot about the people who keep sending him back. One can only surmise they have no problem with McCain (ugh!).

Just to be clear, McCain is reprehensible. I will never forget the way Harry Reid was visibly eager to get McCain a chance to speak in order to refute Senator Cruz. McCain (and Reid) couldn’t wait to tear down Cruz. No matter how much members of a party disagree with each other, they shouldn’t ever, EVER give aid and comfort to the other party!

BTW, I’m convinced McCain is going to retire after this term. That’s, unfortunately, still a long way away, but I bet he’s going to turn on conservatives like never before. He has absolutely nothing to lose.

Even Karl Rove , on Greta, waxed poetic on Cruz tonight.

Altho’ he disagrees with Cruz's position, he praised him to the hilt - rather a shocker.

Methinks Cruz made big inroads - some of the king makers are going to be taking a long, hard look at Cruz - whatever else, they like to be on the winning side - and they saw a winner last night...and the response from the country today.

As a relatively new senator on the hill, as Cruz alluded to last night, there hasn't been much interaction or ‘getting-to-know’ with other senators - other than the “freshmen” he came in with.

So, he has probably been largely dismissed by those whose think they’re so far above, with all the power and prestige.

Now they have to take notice - they see he has the gravitas, and now exposure to the country - too rise to the top. There's an election next year. Some may well decide they might be smart to befriend Cruz -

Why does this Michael Walsh character call us TEA Party people a horde? Doesn’t he know that we are all just a bunch of mild mannered folks; sitting back, clinging to our Bibles and guns?

The battle is going to be lost, and I think Cruz knew that...but this isn’t something to be decided in one 21 hour speech, but through a series of slow, steady, advances.

We began fighting back in 2009, with the Tea Party stimulus protests....and we’re not done.

Every war has advances and defeats, we have to learn from all of them. :)
