Thats nothing to be proud of. The rebels thereof were fomenting the worlds first
communistic revolution; if they had helped end WWI sooner, then they would have gotten home rule via democratic means.
And these days,
the Irish governments budget gets scrutinized by the Bundestag. And the Irish people are subject to a federal government in Brussels in which they have no legislative powerin Westminster, they did indeed have legislative power and directly affected the course of the very empire they claimed to hate.
Take note of what is going on here. There is nothing altruistic about Wałęsas move to throw Polands sovereignty further down the commode than it has already been cast by joining the EU. This is the beginnings of the so-called two-speed Europe, which will be even less free than the EU itself is.
Britain was never going to give home rule; their continued occupation of the north illustrates that.
I’d rather have Germany review Ireland’s budget than Britain; Germany invested heavily in Ireland over the past 20 years while Britain wanted to keep it as a giant pasture. Ireland’s rebellion wasn’t communist, regardless of what revisionists may say.
