Skip to comments.Lee: GOP Has the Votes to Stop Funding Obamacare (Cloture vote Tonight or Friday!)
Posted on 09/26/2013 9:29:52 AM PDT by jimbo123
Today, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) explained that Senate Republicans have the votes to prevent Sen. Harry Reid from reinstating funding for Obamacare in the House continuing resolution if they will stay unified. Republicans only need 41 votes to block Reid from using procedural tricks to put Obamacare funding back in the bill.
House Republicans showed tremendous courage and unity in voting to fund government, avoid a shut down, and protect the American people from the harmful effects of Obamacare, said Sen. Lee. Senate Republicans have the ability to show that same courage by staying unified and together opposing cloture on the final bill. We should continue to withhold support for ending debate until Senator Reid either brings up the House bill as is for an up-or-down vote, or allows an open amendment process that permits both Republicans and Democrats to offer amendments to the bill.
The vote on cloture to end debate is expected on Friday, but could be held as early as Thursday evening.

Let us pray.
So what he’s saying is if they stick together they can force and up or down vote on the House bill. That bill would fail...then they’d go to amendments.
So this is about getting the rats on records voting for Obamacare again.
Can someone please post a list of the critical senators whom it would be beneficial and worthwhile to call?
That, of course, will take testicular fortitude on the part of the GOP.
why didn’t Ted Cruz or anybody else speaking against the obozocare speak of the 3.5% home sales tax that goes into effect Jan 1, 2014? This tax will utterly kill middle class home sales.
Not very reassuring, when most of them have been neutered.
Stay unified? They haven't been unified to begin with. There are easily a dozen Republicans who will vote to end cloture. Probably more.
They could filibuster cloture to demand a delay amendment and get at least one Dem vote.
Not sure what I think of that, ideally the Dems would not pass the delay amendment... but what if they do?
I’m sorry, but the train has already left.
Burr, McConnell, Cornyn, McLame, Graham, Boozman, Coburn. That alone is enough to get Reid what he wants. Remember these traitors.
RINOs like my TN senators Corker and Alexander wont be voting to defund..
Wait... Lamar! Alexander is up for reelection next year..
oh the po ol boy will be torn about what to do..
hes advertising himself as “conservative” right now
“Im not a Conservative but I play one on TV”
McConnell, Cornyn, Alexander would be good to call, but don’t expect much. They’ve disconnected their phones.
Call Boozman too to tell him what a quisling he is.
I hope Joe Carr will run some solid ads against this fraud.
They have the numbers to stop cloture but they don’t have the votes. Already Reid has the 6 Repubs needed - Coburn McConnell Cornyn McCain Graham Boozman etc. They are all on record supporting Reid.
Fight these losers at every turn. Cry for their removal everywhere and leave peace for them when they try to campaign or self promote.
Remove their worthless hides by all legal pressure and means available till we get country loving principled conservatives in there to heal this country of all the messes.
It’s about getting the Dems on the record, and for allowing the GOP to offer amendments, such as forcing Congress to be subject to Obamacare.
And some might say fasting too, may try that...
Let this be our Gettysburg! Crush the RINOS!
I hope Sen Lee is correct....but not...lets note which senators voted for cloiture...and ObamaCare
If they stay unified is a horrible expression.
They are not unified to begin with , how can they stay that way,
We know for certain that McCain, McConnell, Graham, Hatch, Collins , Reed, and maybe others will turn on us.
I don’t know why Ted Cruz didn’t speak about my ailing Boston Fern.
Oh! I get it! My fern was not coming up under Senate Parliamentary Rules, in a Motion for Cloture.
Poor me, and what about my fern?
The problem now is that the Rinos are invested in Cruz losing. Otherwise, their criticism of his tactics looks like defeatism and makes them look like losers, while Cruz becomes the victorious hero. Can’t have that.
1,811,245 Signatures (YAHOO!)
Libs are getting really vile on twitter to @TedCruz #makedclisten.
Please add Tom Coburn (R-OK) to today’s calls. PLEASE.
Tom is nothing if not a self-proclaimed sage of the senate, on waste and fraud, and then turns around and blasts Cruz, and will vote “FOR” cloture tonight, to move along the biggest WASTE AND FRAUD scam in US history.
Squish is his name.
Don’t count on Juan, Linda, Alexander, Coburn, Cornyn or McConnell, much less Collins.
He's talking (http://www.ronjohnson.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=59fe8eb1-ae24-431e-9a5e-95d1bdd43339), but watch his vote.
MAKE DC LISTEN: TELL YOUR SENATORS TO OPPOSE CLOTURE ON H.J. RES 59
We must oppose cloture on H. J. Res. 59, so that Harry Reid and Senate Democrats cannot sneak in funding for Obamacare. We need you to call your Senators right now: tell them to oppose cloture on H.J. Res 59 and remind them that a vote for cloture IS a for funding Obamacare.

Now that we have your attention, you sorry US Senators, keep in mind that we will replace you with those who will gladly correct your errors - - - .
So, scrub and clean by 2014 !
Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick
I thought Rand Paul had been on this list, but it looks like he has backed off. CALL HIS OFFICE!
Buy it some HealthCare from your "exchange".
Just called Cornyn and got through. Left him a message. I’ve sent him several tweets and facebook messages as well.
"Stay" unified? Have they been unified at all up until now?Last I checked, they're all over the map. The Vichy GOP-eunuchs are legion, so Lee's hope is little more than wishful. But props to the patriots in the Senate and House for at least making a stand.
POUR IT ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just tried Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson. Nelson’s mail box is full and they refer you to the billnelson.senate.gov website to leave a message. Rubio’s line is busy and they refer you to their Orlando phone number. You cannot leave a message.
VA Tim Kaine D (202) 224-4024
VA Mark R. Warner D (202) 224-2023
Called the offices of these two.. A complete waste of time, since these two are in competition to be Obama’s most slavishly loyal pleasure boy, but I went through the motions anyway.
Don’t you just LOVE the sound of sorry US Senator’s phone lines melting?
Mike Lee BUMP.
Right now, I feel about as angry at John McCain riding this treasonous Bill as I do about Jane Fonda sitting on a tank.
Marco Rubio will vote against cloture.
I just left a message at Rubio’s Orlando number. His fax is: 407-423-0941.

Yes. I know. But I am calling him anyway just to show I am out here. Now I am going to try the brain dead idiot Bill Nelson locally here. Not looking forward to it either. LOL!
I just dialed Bill Nelson at 407-872-7161 in Orlando. There was a long pause. Then a fast busy signal. THEY ARE GETTING BOMBARDED!!!
Pay no attention to the goofy remarks about your question...it is a good one. Actually, there is no such tax. The 3.5% you refer to applies only to those who sell their homes and have more gain than the free $ 500K allowable. That is, if you sell (married filing joint) and have gain greater than $ 500K, then the amount of gain which exceeds this allowance will be taxed at 3.5%. Most of us ordinary folks will never see such profits.
