Connecticut insurance costs among Obamacare's highest
The Connecticut Post ^ | Sept. 26, 2013 | Staff and Wire Reports

Shortly after the HHS report was released, the leader of the state's health insurance exchange issued a response. "Unfortunately, this is not surprising, given that CT currently has the 4th highest medical costs in the U.S., underscoring how various marketplace variables impact premium rates," said Kevin Counihan, Access Health CT president and chief executive officer. "Additionally, CT has a substantial number of mandated benefits when compared to other states, as well as broad provider network requirements, both of which tend to drive higher premiums. We look forward to being part of the dialogue to address these important issues moving forward as we look to make coverage more affordable in our state."

This state will give anybody a free ambulance ride for nearly any reason. We transport drunks to emergency rooms. We spend lavishly on a growing indigent population in our sanctuary cities. Those are the "costs" Mr. Counihan wont come out and specify fully and honestly.

It’s not going to cost anywhere near as much as they say - there are subsidies - remember? /s

Not to mention, in the interests of redistribution, people with higher incomes will pay higher rates. I’m assuming there are many high income people in CT who have not yet fled the state. They’ve been paying the highest taxes, too.

I live in CT and every time one of my family members needed an ambulance, we paid. One time, I had to give them a check before!!

In Massachusetts welfare/Medicaid recipients get unlimited fertility treatments as part of their free health care because,as it was explained by some filthy Rat in the State legislature,”well,it's mandated for health plans for those covered by other plans so we can't deny it to the most vulnerable among us”.

Costs are high...if you are a productive citizen.

If you are a leech in CT, you've got it made. Because the median income is the nation's 2nd highest (after HI), income levels for subsidy qualification are much higher too.

Kitty I should correct myself ... the free ambulance rides are just for the folks who can’t pay.

Just a matter of time before a law is passed, or Obama issues an EO, making it illegal to get treatment across state lines.

making it illegal to get treatment across state lines.

I'd say that is pretty improbable given the geography of the US.

The logic:

We in CT have a very high standard of living. We have more wealth per capita than any other state (give or take). We have the highest or near-highest median household income.

Ergo...

We have nearly the highest medical/hospital/dental costs in the nation. So we have to pay some of the highest insurance rates for that high cost care.

in other words, it all evens out across the country.

(Unless you aren’t rich in CT, of course.)

Under Gov. Malloy, who I’m convinced squeaked into office via voter fraud in Bridgeport, CT was the only state with “negative” economic growth last year.
