John McCain adviser regrets starting Sarah Palin 'freak show' (FUJM)
Washington Examiner ^ | 9/27/2013 | By Washington Examiner staff reports

The political operative who brought former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin onto the national political stage as Sen. John McCain's 2008 vice presidential running mate now says he has “deep regret” about doing creating the “freak show that's been running wild for four years” in the Republican Party.

Steve Schmidt was running McCain's presidential race when he helped convince the GOP nominee that bringing in a fresh, conservative face like Palin would be a game changer in a race being dominated by Democrat Barack Obama. The results proved disastrous for McCain.

Palin became a leader of what Schmidt called an “asininity” wing of the Republican Party, hardcore conservatives looking to purge the party of moderates and anyone willing to compromise with Democrats.

“For the last couple of years, we’ve had this wing of the party running roughshod over the rest of the party,” Schmidt said on MSNBC. “Tossing out terms like RINO, saying we’re going to purge, you know, the moderates out of the party.

“We’ve lost five U.S. Senate seats over the last two election cycles,” he said. “And fundamentally we need Republicans, whether they’re running for president, whether they’re in the leadership of the Congress, to stand up against a lot of this asininity.”

So Schmidt is a gaylord RINO who promotes so-called homosexual “marriage.”

That explains it all to me.

"To call them “real Republicans” is a lie - John Boehner and his vile crew, Mitch McConnell and John McCain, Jeb Bush above all - these ARE the “real” Republicans, this is what “real Republican” MEANS."

You have a point, but I think you're wrong. How do Republicans campaign when they are asking for votes? What to they say? No Republican runs as a squishy RINO. McCain needed to say: "OK, I'll build the damn fence to get elected." Cornyn is out there about how he's willing to do every to "repeal and replace" ObamaCare. He's lying, but he has to lie.

The RINOs have to lie to get elected.

Steve Schmidt ran one of the worst campaigns I’ve ever seen in my life. Why the foxtrot should I listen to a damn thing he says? McCain couldn’t even win Indiana.

Sarah endorsed McQueeg for senator against a good Tea Party conservative.

Perhaps without her endorsement McQueeg would have been primaried.

So, Sarah, see what supporting RINOs gets ya? A knife in the back. We all coulda told you that.

exactly.

Next time you hear someone say we need to vote the lesser of 2 evils, just remember this. RINO’s hate conservatives more than they dislike socialism.

"The results proved disastrous"

That's an f'n lie. As I remember, Sarah breathed life into a boring ticket, propelled them to a lead in the polls despite attacks on Palin from within and without, from left and right.

Things were close, iirc, going into the financial meltdown, at which point McCain became impotent. He later acknowledged pulling punches so he wouldn't be remembered as a racist republican, saying nasty things about America's first black president.

Schmidt is totally inside the beltway, an MSNBC staple. He and his former boss can go to hell.

Memo to Schmidt...

The John McCain campaign wasn't the only campaign interested in Gov Palin as a running mate.

Get over yourself.

IIRC, Palin had a good word for McCain before he had an opponent.

However, I could be wrong

Hey Steve, put some ice on it.

Oh yeah, and if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have Ted Cruz, since Sarah's endorsement put him over the top.

Have a nice day.

Although McCain will deny, deny, deny, don’t think for a minute Schmidt did not get the blessing and encouragement from McCain for this statement.
