'A Somali Muslim has been hailed a hero after rescuing a mother and her three daughters from the Nairobi shopping mall as gunmen threw grenades and sprayed bullets yards away.

Katherine Walton feared she and her children would not get out alive after becoming trapped under a table outside a supermarket in the Westgate complex.

But they were saved by Abdul Haji, the son of a former Kenyan security minister, who bravely ushered them to safety as he fired back at the terrorists with a handgun.

His identity has now been revealed after his story was immortalised in an iconic photograph which shows him reaching out to Mrs Walton's four-year-old daughter Portia as she runs away with fear etched on her face.'

Christians do good deeds every single day but you will never hear about it from CNN, MSNBC, or ABC

Can we give some grateful recognition to this man, please? Free Republic is becoming a Johnny One-Note of hatred towards Muslims, Hispanic people, and Black people.

I thought Conservative people are good people. I'm not very glad when I see this kind of hatred and bigotry.

Now that his identity has been revealed we can expect he will be targeted and killed

I agree. This man is a hero and saved lives and yet the usual suspects deride him.

From the article:

But Haji will have none of the gushing. ‘I think I did what any Kenyan in my situation would have done to save lives, to save other humans regardless of their nationality, religion or creed,’ he said.

In an interview with NTV, Haji admitted that his brother--who he rushed to the mall to help in the first place--is an anti-terrorism agent and was, until the attack, working undercover.

Haji said that both his father and brother have received death threats in the wake of the attacks now that it is public knowledge that his brother worked to undermine groups like Al-Shabab.

earlier it was reported that during the attack the terrorists were watching facebook pages and social media sites of victims and their families and those who escaped, and threatening them

Inread that as well...which leads me to believe that MANY, MANY more members of the terror cell are still out there.

The brave man, Mr. Haij & bis family needs to get as far away as possible and the American mom of 5...now that she too has been identified, her family NEEDS to leave & return to safety if US. Reading the accounts of what Kenyan soldiers are finding in the Mall is horrific. The terrorists will see them ALL as the “ones who got away.”

You are going to find hatred all over, not just here. But I do think that after 9/11, we have started to view other ethnic groups with suspicion. Time was, I could see a woman in Muslim dress and not give it a thought. Today, when I see anyone who even remotely appears to be Muslim, my heart rate goes up. It's a shame, but there it is.

And the suspicion and mistrust of other ethnic groups can be laid at Obama’s feet. The guy touted as the great unifier has done more to divide us than anyone before. It's because he and his communist accomplices have decided that certain races and classes should be able to rob and plunder others.

Another one of Obama’s son possibilities? Perhaps a photo op at the White House is in his future.

I am with you there
I won't be comfortable for some time if at all anymore anymore in a mall or anywhere close to some woman wearing a sack and a veil with a slit for her eyes- get me far far away

some beyotch white women convert on another site was moaning about American “islamophobia”

yeah honey we tend to look cross-eyed at people dressed like you who direct mau mau mall massacres

so sue me for your hurt feelings

use the money to hire a therapist to find out why any woman especially one who has lived free with the sun and wind on her hair chooses to adopt this lifestyle, dress in a sack and scarf, put your little daughter in the same, and follow some bearded slob in a polo shirt and shorts around the mall.

To me you are a walking ad for “sumting wrong”

Let's see - one or two Muzzies do good so we need to trust them all. One or two bad guys use guns so we need to get rid of all gun owners.

I think I'm catching on to the all-or-nothing philosophy of the Left.

No and I don’t think that is the intent. But we, I included, have often asked, “If there are “moderate” Muslims who are in opposition to the Islamic extremists and terrorists, where are they why don’t more of them speak up and stand up against the others?”

Here is a case of a man and his father and brother who are Muslim and who are fighting the terrorists and extremists, this man in particular risking his own life as a private and armed citizen of Kenya to save the lives of others including non-Muslims and non-Kenyans. So perhaps instead of calling him a “Muzzie” and lumping him in with the murderers, we should be praising him, giving encouragement to others who think similarly.

I can think of one Kenyan who wouldn't.

Though I disagree with you on the hatred part towards “people of color” - I don’t believe that conservatives like myself hate anyone, The actions of this man deserve the recognition he is getting.

...and keep thinking that conservatives are good people, because we are.

Just goes to show the fact that “there is no such thing as a good muslim” is not the same as “there is no such thing as a muslim who is good.”
