To listen to the Republican pundiots you would think they have never lost an election when it seems they have never won one. They think if they don’t rock the boat they are assured of winning the Senate even though there is no evidence they will. The experts believe if they continue to be the Party of warm spit the people will find them irresistible so they continue to moderate and surrender. In flies the Cruz Missile blowing the boat out of the water and is under sixty years old and they attack like rabid dogs. If only they were as willing to Pit Bull Dems as they do Conservatives.
The beauty of being a campaign advisor or manager is you can make all sorts of predictions and prognostications and no matter how wrong you are in the end you still get to cash your check. Now if they were to predict the upcoming lottery or who will win the Super Bowl you could be impressed, but they seem to pretend they can see the future clearly and have the politicians convinced they can. The part they never seem to add into the equation is why people would ever want to vote for them? They believe they can get enough people to vote against the Dems even if it requires holding your nose and pulling the lever. People need to not only have a reason, but preferably are excited and willing to work harder than the unions and Democrat ballot printing machines. Is there anybody in the Senate that description fits?
Who says that agreeing with the Dems and letting Obamacare destroy people’s lives is a winning ticket in ’14? Why isn’t being proactive and forcing the gummit to run out of money and showing the world there is actually a Party that is more serious about fiscal responsibility, that it would put the country in front of its own political calculations. This country is desperate for leadership and here is a chance to show some leadership and McConnell/McCain want to lead from their behinds. We finally have a Republican willing to stand for what he believes and he is attacked by both Parties and especially his own, shameful.
They have the perfect opportunity to make that happen and they are throwing down their weapons. We had perhaps the most articulate explanation of why we should vote against the CR and defunding Obamacare and they are acting like French soldiers. Grandpa’s Old Party is so afraid of its own shadow it is willing to cling to its irrelevance to the point of sabotage. You have an exciting, young, incredible speaker whose intelligence is off the charts and a Hispanic, so under the bus he goes because he will not play the dusty old seniority game.
Ted Cruz is the perfect face for the Geezers Old Party who has the debating skills of Reagan with the intelligence and articulation we may have never seen in the Party. How many times have we watched our spokesmen get up to explain Conservatism or the Free Market system and cringe at the pregnant pauses as well as the jumbled explanation like McCain gives. For anybody who watched his magnificent filibuster you watched a mastery of the English language as well as a deep and vibrant mind which explored not only the weaknesses of Obamacare and Socialist medicine with no apology, but he gave a full and clear description of how Capitalism and Free Markets are far superior. He explained in eleven hours what it means to be an American and why it is the best political and economic experiment ever created in the histoir of mankind.
We watched him twice debate Dick Durbin who is nothing but a cheap bomb thrower; come up with his patented made up victim story and smacked him like a piñata. Twice he pointed out to give his fake 65 yr old motel maid insurance for the first time in her existence, why don’t Durban and his staff want to go on the same program. Neither time did Durtbin answer the question and the second time with his snappy next day comeback tried to trap Cruz into the same question only to have the bomb blow up like Wiley Coyote when he explained he does not carry the Senate health plan for his family. His strongest argument was explaining why taking away religious organizations freedom to oppose paying for abortions and contraceptive takes away their most basic rights. He said, “If they can take their religious freedoms what stops them from taking away yours?”
It was an oratorical masterpiece to finally see a Republican hand it to a Dem playing their own game and winning with well thought out arguments, but that is not good enough for the Grey Old Party leaders. They want to manage their losses with grace and dignity rather than fighting back like our Cruz missile did.
Managing losses properly is what Karl Rove and the rest of the DC Punditocracy claim is the path to victory. They believe that not fighting back will rally the troops and get enough of those magic independents to not vote for the Party which is winning and suddenly vote for the losers. They believe the path to victory is built on a series of surrenders and not upsetting the DC apple cart. Who says the path to victory is not taking the fight to the enemy and standing up for the 60% of voters who are terrified of Obamacare and the personal infringement it represents? You may lose this battle in the end, but you could win the war by standing firm and showing the American people there is a Party who is watching out for them. Who says sending a few Cruz missiles to destroy the enemy fortresses may not be the path to victory. That is how they won the last landslide victory and how they could win this one.
Right now the biggest problem for the Grumpy Old Party is not Ted Cruz; it is a lack of identity. If anyone axed what the Party stands for you would have a hard time coming up with a single issue. They say they are against Obamacare, but here is an opportunity to make a visible statement and they vote with the Dems. Here is the best and most popular opportunity of this century and they are AWOL. This is why you need to listen to young, well spoken and handsome new leaders like Ted Cruz and at least give him a chance. The worst that can happen is you will lose the next election which chances are at this rate you will anyway. On the other hand you can give your most passionate activists a reason to go out and knock doors and contribute money as well as give the independents a reason to join you. This may not be what the paid professionals will tell you, but they get their checks whether the candidate wins or loses; just ask Romney. It is time to send some of those old bulls to pasture and let the Cruz Missile hit his targets.
