Posted on 09/27/2013 11:12:39 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet
Senators from both parties linked arms to defy Sen. Ted Cruz, overcoming his attempt to filibuster the stopgap spending bill, which allowed Democrats to add back in full funding for Obamacare and power the bill through the chamber.
The 79-19 vote saw 25 Republicans join with all Democrats to advance the bill, easily overcoming Mr. Cruz and his allies who had argued this was the key point that would determine whether major parts of President Obamas health care law take effect next week.
Once that hurdle was cleared, the rest of the votes were preordained. The Senate waived budget rules, voted to strip out the Obamacare defunding on a 54-44 party line vote, and passed the bill.
The bill now heads back to the House, where Republicans are struggling to figure out a path forward, trapped between a right wing which insists on full defunding and Senate Democrats, who just proved that stance cannot succeed.
This is like the movie High Noon. The two sides are walking down the street. I just hope that like the movie High Noon, I hope the good guys win, said Sen. Tom Harkin, an Iowa Democrat who accused Mr. Cruz and his allies of being anarchists, hoping to destroy government altogether.
He said the country is facing a situation every bit as dangerous as the lead-up to the Civil War....

Bill goes nowhere, however, without House’s nod. Keep up the hard ball, Cruz....
Truth. And look at the percentages of the non-Democrat votes...roughly 25% RINO, 20% Conservative.
That is, sadly, probably far off...
Send it back with Obamacare as well as the senate defunded.
If someone can post who voted for cloture I would appreciate it. Be nice to know which side of the butter is breaded with our senators.
It’s time you greedy, thieving little taxpayers be brought to heel!
I think this shows that it's time for a peaceful negotiation for splitting the USA into two pieces.
The Socialist side will begin to crumble after about 2 years while our prosperity will skyrocket!
THANK ALL YALL FOR YOUR UNTIRING EFFORTS TO HARASS AND SOON REPLACE OUR SORRY GOP SENATORS.
LET US ENDEAVOR TO CAUSE OUR SORRY GOP SENATORS TO GROW EVEN MORE INCREASINGLY IRRITATED.
THE NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY WAS BORN ON THE US SENATE FLOOR WHEN SENATOR TED CRUZ BEGAN HIS 21 HOUR INSPIRATIONAL FILIBUSTER.
WE IN THE NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE IN HIS DEBT.
THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY BATTLES TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE.
WE WILL PREVAIL !
That would be diamond-hard ball!
Never have I seen the federal government so opposed to those citizens demanding liberty, justice and freedom. The lines have been drawn and the Republican establishment have made it abundantly clear on which side they stand.
I have a plan, the House funds Obamacare for $1.00 and cuts IRS funding in half. Then the Dems will have to fight on two fronts and good luck trying to convince the American people to give IRS more money.
A word to the wise: start giving the salutes not to Cruz but to the Cross (or more particularly the One who died on it, then rose again, forging a road upon which the dying and dead may be set and thus revived).
We are not represented fairly and the nation is lost without a real sweep of both houses.
It galls me that 75% of the Senate is laughing at us, tsk tsk'ing, and going on about the dismantleing of our Republic.
Alas America ... at least I got to know ye ...
That once august body is now 99.99% bluff and guff. 0.01% stuff.
He’s “all wee wee’d up”
The 19 Rep who voted no on cloture:
Vitter,Paul,Lee,Cruz,Crapo,Enzi,Fischer,Roberts,Scott,Heller,Grassley,Toomey,Moran, Rubio, Shelby,Risch,Inhofe, Portman, Sessions
(idaho done good)
YEAs ---79 Alexander (R-TN)
Not Voting - 2
NAYs ---19 Crapo (R-ID)
Flake (R-AZ) Hatch (R-UT)
Well at least we can leave the GOP with a clear mind and with no regrets. We gave them so much leeway and they caved in every time to the left. The RINOS, otherwise known as Democratic Party infiltrators, showed us their hand time and time again, and we kept forgiving them. Now with a clear conscience we can say sayonara to the sorry Republican Party.
GOP-e gutless wonders. The old bipartisan club doesn’t like the young upstarts in Cruz and Lee. Keep your score cards handy because we real elephants will remember. War on Rats and RINO’s.
THE NEW REPUBLICAN PARTY
There can be no such thing. The Republican brand has been sullied, tarnished and disgraced. The party is totally compromised and itself needs to be defunded.
New party is the only option.
Great advice, thanks!
Cornhole (TX) is gonna pay.
Thune that tall wimp. What a disappointment and after all those letters he keeps sending me in the mail. They will go in the garbage just like his empty rhetoric—its good for nothing. Daschle never left—he just got a lot taller and changed his party to RINO.
So, I guess this means that the senate has voted to shut down the government.
I am certain that will be the headline to tomorrow’s Washington Post.
So what? Accomplishing much in the Senate was always a long shot anyway. The House has to pay along and the House even the leadership seems to have located the odd testicle. Plus no result here is still a win. Not one of those cases ever you have to get something passed to succeed. No action is a win because no Death Care funding.
Really glad Toomey came through. My call worked! I’ll accept your thanks now...
Dream on. The eneMedia will do all it can to cover for the Left.
All the YEA votes with an R by their name should all have it changed to T for Traitor!
Well, a purely-political solution is going to need enough warm bodies to grab the votes. Not impossible, but be sure the good Lord really HAS furnished those warm bodies. Methinks they are still scanty.
I suggest a biblical approach. Say sayonara not to a party but to Satan; keep the vessel but put it to a better use.
I hate to say it but I have become so cynical about politicians that I believe Cruz knew the Senate would vote as it did. I think filibuster may have been political theater on his part. Sorry!
We fumigated the White House after Zipper-Boy Clinton left, and restored Honor with GWB.
Same for the GOP that WE allowed to get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy off the tracks.
‘Fess up now, each of us could have done more.
The NEW Republican Party will have to build a better roadbed, and replace a lot of old ties, (pun intended), but the fine old and battered GOP Steam Engine will once again ‘be coming ‘round the bend.’
BTW, this time it will only be making RIGHT turns.
I suggest it make its turns in a different plane: upward. There is not a single political philosophy known to man that cannot become a hideously twisted chimera by means of being snatched away from God. Not one.
I have to admit that we in Kansas did not elect RINO’s.
This is the list (one of 2 by 2 different posters) in the comments for the Washington Times article (via Drudge)

25 Rinos RINOS...please use the proper terminology.
Add Flake and Hatch. A non-vote is the same as a No vote.
Correction: I Meant the same as a yes vote.
I'm sure he knew what his chances were, if that's what you mean. Look who runs the senate! Dingy Harry Reid, Dick "Turban" Durban, Weasel McConnell, Juan McStain, Lindseed Grahamnesty, etc...
First, we as a Nation need to get down on our knees and as for HIS forgiveness.
I prefer a Government that doesn’t get to high and mighty, so suggesting “upward” to a politician might get us right back in the fix we are now it.
RE: The Senate waived budget rules, voted to strip out the Obamacare defunding on a 54-44 party line vote, and passed the bill.
I believe there are 46 Republican Senators. Which 2 voted NOT to defund Obamacare?
Well insofar as “all the world’s a stage” and the proceedings of Congress should be out in the public domain for consumption of the citizenry, I suppose you could call what Cruz did “theater.”
Then again, people do enjoy all different sorts of theater —Musical, Kabuki, Classical— the problem is now that we have a literal Greek tragedy taking place, and we’re hard pressed to find public servants who merit the title and stand up for how the country was founded. I hope Cruz is one of these individuals, not just another “player”
Thanks for pointing that out, Mozilla. You’re right.
What a couple of chickens#ts. I’m sorry. I’m just *really* mad.
Once again, I see Alabama as the only state doing the right thing.
God bless you, Mister Session—and even Richard Shelby, who is growing a pair.
No. You are honest and honestly believe in Cruz. I can no longer do so with regard to any politician. I have 53 years experience with them.
Yes he is!!!
I don’t “believe” in him, I place a bit of hope in him, just as I do Sarah Palin. He may let me down. I also have 53 years of dealing with these people. A county supervisor candidate in California “forgot” to pay me for handing out leaflets during a parade in the 1960’s. A neighbor girl wrote a letter-to-the-editor in the kid’s section of the area newspaper about his goof-up and all of a sudden he was at my house with the money. LOL
As for Chief Justice Roberts, I’m 97% sure they were either holding his children hostage or threatened his family during that case. I’ve heard too many rumors about it from the “intelligence community” to brush it off as some Alex Jones/David Icke conspiracy.
No, he won't. (And even if he did, he'd still be RICHER THAN YOU ARE!)
