At least one candidate for the U.S. Senate wants to make it known that he stands with Sen. Ted Cruz’s effort to defund Obamacare.
“I fully support any attempt to defund and repeal Obamacare,” Lieutenant Gov. Mead Treadwell of Alaska told The Daily Caller Wednesday as Texas Republican Cruz was winding down his 22-hour quasi-filibuster. “I applaud Senator Ted Cruz and the principled members of the Senate as they fight for the American people to get rid of Obamacare. When I am elected in November 2014 I will stand and work with Senators like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee.”
Treadwell is currently running for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate. He is expected to face off against attorney Joe Miller and natural resources commissioner Dan Sullivan in the GOP primary.

Sounds like Alaska’s Mitt Romney declaring himself “severely conservative”. Not only is Treadwell an ally of Lisa Murkowski, but he backed Romney back in early 2008.
He’s originally from CT and unfortunately I well recognize the type. If he were still based in CT he’d proudly introduce himself to you as a “liberal Republican”.

I’ll admit, I’m worried about the race. Should really be winnable and if Palin had jumped in, with full force, I think she could have worked her way to another Alaska victory.
But I wonder what’s up with John Burns resigning as AG, and whether he might be the best candidate if he gets in it.
Seems like she already did a month or two ago by pronouncing the announced challengers inadequate for the task.
Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Sam Clovis in Iowa is another candidate for Senate who has said exactly the same thing.
I have been looking into Clovis in Iowa, and like what I am reading. The grassroots conservatives seem to really like him. He was a local talk radio host if I recall.

Miller ruined himself last go-around. While he does have have $800K+ in campaign funding left to spend, he hasn’t made any noise of late. His campaign last time around was disorganized and several of the people involved have entered the Witness Protection Program. Ya. Miller = baggage.
Dan Sullivan (NOT the mayor) is likely to file for the Senate race. He has far more to offer than Miller and is - so far - clean.
Anyone that runs against Beg-bitch will need to have a very thick skin, the media here in AK leans to the Left or far-Left. It will be an uphill battle against the Unions, Native Corps and more than a few ‘non-profits’.
My adult son just sold his house here in Anchorage and moved to Texas, thus voting with his feet. I ‘m wondering how long it will be before I do the same....
I served a long tour with him in the Pentagon when we were both Majors. He’s the real deal and I’ve supported him to the maximum of my ability. I live in Virginia but would urge anyone living in Iowa to support him both with volunteering and financial. He is a person that Iowa would be very proud to have representing them in these troubled times.

I’m also seeing varied opinions of Treadwell. Much like Kelly Ayotte who was called everything from “very conservative” to “Susan Collins”.
Sullivan may enter race, and of course Palin is a wild card as always. .
We are having a lot of trouble finding good conservative candidates outside the southeast right now.
Nobody viable seems to be facing down Mike Rounds in South Dakota.
The Montana field has cleared for Daines, who is essentially a Denny Rehberg retread.
And now Alaska is looking shaky. We have to beat Begich.
Would Sullivan be an improvement? I know less about him than I do Treadwell.
Is Rounds another Thune? I haven’t heard what the exact problem is with him. He and Daines should not have trouble winning at least.
But Alaska on the other hand will be a fight.
Sullivan is said to be an improvement, but I don’t know if I’ve heard from any actual Alaskans about him. He definitely has similar name ID to Treadwell.
As for Rounds, he didn’t govern as a conservative, think McDonnell in Virginia. I haven’t heard a single positive about the guy from Freepers, other than he has big name ID as a former governor. Senate Conservatives Fund has also blacklisted him from their endorsement roster for being too liberal.
I wouldn’t be so sure about Daines. He’s essentially in the same position as Denny Rehberg was going into 2012, and we all remember what happened there. Though Schweitzer is out, the rats could still find a viable challenger, and I really can’t see the base going wild for Daines, who is a moderate at best. Montana is not as red as people think, especially for senate elections. I mean, they elect idiots like Baucus and Tester.
The only thing I ever heard about his Governorship was the abortion ban. But that doesn't surprise. The establishment wing is very strong in the prairie states, especially the Dakotas and Montana. Republicans elected from those states are usually porkmasters. There are a couple state legislators in the race against him (and a lady doctor with auburn hair). I don't know if they are any better and I doubt they can compete with him. Noem is the only person who is likely to have been able to.

Yes, I know. Baucus's seat has never elected a Republican since popular elections began. The last Republican to hold it was a progressive RINO elected by the state leg in 1907. I believe only Mary Landrieu's seat in LA has been held longer continuously by the rats, it last elected a Republican in 1876.
I'm not really afraid of the rats post-Schweitzer choices in MT however. The 2 I've seen mentioned are State Supreme Court Justice Brian Morris and LT Governor John Walsh. And if one of them doesn't get in then they should be screwed for sure.
