I would hardly file this under “big story” but that’s the AP for you I guess.

This reminds me of the time when I looked at the requirements for “Little Miss Columbus Day” (don’t remember the exact name, it might have been something else) for Bayonne, NJ. (Why did I read them, because they were there!)

The contestants had to have at least one parent who was 100% of Italian extraction, so if both your parents were 1/2 ethnically Italian, that was not sufficient.

I was surprised.
