House Republican leaders said on Sunday that they still believed a government shutdown beginning on Tuesday could be averted if Democrats would accept at least some of their demands to scale back President Obamas health care law.
I think the House will get back together, in enough time, send another provision not to shut the government down but to fund it, and it will have a few other options in there for the Senate to look at, Representative Kevin McCarthy, the House Republican whip, said on Fox News Sunday.
A fellow conservative Republican, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, sounded a similar note. We are the party thats willing to compromise, he said on the CBS program Face the Nation. They are the party that says, no way, were not touching Obamacare.

My so-called Senator’s web site is shut down. I believe from overload. They must be feeling the heat. My other Senator, (McCain) is a waste of bandwidth so he’s still open. Doesn’t read the postings anyway.
Negotiating with yourself is not a winning strategy.
SHUT IT DOWN!!
And see if anyone notices
Then keep it shut down
Cornyn posted on FB an hour ago that Obama has done nothing to stop a government shutdown. (of course how Cornyn will vote may be another matter entirely).
Shutting down the government won’t stop Obamacare but after Obama’s media eats the GOP alive the low ifo voters will turn on us with a vengance. Nancy Pelosi is very happy today.
Obama has found it very easy to advance his narrow ideological agenda of failure-prone Marxism.
4 years after Obama conned his Democrats into passing the Federal takeover of the cash cow of Medical Insurance, the PC, Doormat Republicans are finally timidly suggesting defunding that Federal takeover.
Without the weak, PC, Doormat Republicans Boehner and McConnell being stupidly kept in their respective leadership positions by truly cowardly House and Senate Members, Obama Medical Insurance Care Takeover would have been defunded long ago.
The primal yearning of the 47 % who pay no personal Federal Income tax is to belong to a tribe where all of their choices are dictated to them by their arrogant tribal leader.
This a common trait of those who have low self-esteem.
In that sense, Obamanation is truly a cult.
Freedom is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) Exemption or liberation from slavery or imprisonment.
3.) Liberty of choice or action.
Most of the 47 % riding in the free wagon seek out slavery, and lack of personal choice.
They thus feel safe.
Liberty is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) The state of being exempt from the domination of others or from restricting circumstances; freedom.
5.) The power of voluntary choice: freedom from necessity.
6.) Individual Liberty: Freedom from restraint in the performance of rights outside of government control.
Most people who are getting a free ride in the wagon where 47 % pay no personal Federal Income Taxes, are terrified of making a voluntary choice.
The 47 % would prefer that they be under government control where the choices are made for him.
All of this societal wussiness has made it very easy for B. Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, to advance his narrow ideological agenda of European-style, failure-prone, Marxism in spite of PC, Doormat Republican token opposition.
BTW, unlike taxes, Federal Obama care Insurance charges can be increased EVERY YEAR to whatever % the present and future arrogant leaders of Obamanation wants.
BTW, BTW, the free-loading 47 % will always vote for the Candidate for POTUS approved by Obamanation.
I've been thinking the same thing.
Yes. We lost it all in the government shutdown of 1995. As Dick Armey has said, within a year of that shutdown conservatism was dead among national Republican politicians.
Before the shutdown we had a conservative House, with the Contract With America, real spending cuts, Don't Ask Don't Tell, Defense of Marriage Act, shifting power to the states...
By 2000 that was all gone and we had Big Government Bush running against I'm A Democrat Too McCain.
We haven't recovered since and in fact things keep sliding to the left, back to where they were before Reagan took office in 1980.
I think the house should break down the funding bill and pass it is separate chunks
The first stand alone chunk... funding for all social service programs, medicade, medicare, social security, ect.
I DARE Harry to table THAT!
Then if Harry does pass that, the I would send him a bill funding the military, and dare him to table THAT!
and just keep doing this over and over, until every important function of government is paid for and wont be shut down, EXCEPT Obamacare :)
“... the house should break down the funding bill and pass it is separate chunks...”
-
The bill would then go to the senate, where
Reid would hold a vote on cloture, and get it.
He would add an amendment to include funding for everything else,
get his 51 votes to pass the amended bill, and send it back to the House.
If the House would not accept the amended bill from the senate,
the House would get blamed for not being willing to negotiate,
and therefore shutting down the government.
Just like the senate did with the first continuing resolution.
The senate mafia can do this over and over again.

I think Senator Paul has put his finger right on the actual motto of the GOP.
Just curious...do many in AZ complain to the state GOP about McCain?
Geeeeeeee I didnt see Cornyn or the other members of the gang of 25 traitors on TV today.....hope they are OK.
Fight back!!!
McCarthy just told everybody how the Republicans plan to cave.
The "total cave-in" Continuing Resolution has been written.
Late Monday, the Senate will send back the CR they got Saturday. Boehner will whip out the prewritten CR, rally the troops and it will pass, barely.
Then it goes back to the Senate, where, with just seconds remaining, the brave politicians pass the CR to save America for you and me.
Oh, and if it looks like they won't make the midnight deadline, they'll figure out how to use some obscure rule to extend the deadline for how ever long it takes.
That's my playbook and I'm sticking to it. The pubbies WILL CAVE and nobamacare will further the destruction of our country right on time.
“SHUT IT DOWN!!
And see if anyone notices
Then keep it shut down”
Ditto! 99% of what the fed does isn’t constitutional in the first place.
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.
Nice, grabbin’ that one.
“Shutting down the government wont stop Obamacare but after Obamas media eats the GOP alive the low ifo voters will turn on us with a vengance. Nancy Pelosi is very happy today.”
So let’s sell our political souls to go after low-information voters? How has that worked out for us so far??
Thing is I’m more optimist then most folks here. I think things are going our way. Obama’s poll numbers are down. Distrust of government is at all time high. That friigin lefty wiz pollster Nate Silver is giving the repubs a better then 50% chance of winning senate. That entirely beatable Hillary will run in 16. The Obamacare roll out will be a disaster. If we don’t screw things up we could run the table in 16 and just repeal the damn thing.
Well I think you are overly optimistic but let’s assume you are right and we run the table and we get to set the agenda...are you optimistic enough to believe that McConnell and Boehner will cut spending and reduce the size of government? What happened the last time we ran the table with a bunch of RINO’s? Government spending was still out of control and we introduced new entitlements (Prescription Drug) and new intrusive government departments (Homeland Security).
As a Conservative we don’t “win” just because a Republican wins.
We said that once before, and it cost us dearly. I’m not sure I really want to do that again.
So, to sum it up, the repubs already have the next red line drawn and are prepared to retreat behind it. Pathetic losers.
Someone just told me that “ Shutting the government down will not stop Obamacare from being implemented because it is a mandate.” Does anyone know if this is true?
Here is what CNN says (Item 5 on their list):
“The Republicans want to defund Obamacare in exchange for funding the government. But the health care act at the center of this storm would continue its implementation process during a shutdown. That’s because its funds aren’t dependent on the congressional budget process.”
10 ways a government shutdown would affect your daily life
http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/23/politics/government-shutdown-daily-life/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Steven Goddard has been cranking out some very good stuff on his blog. Numerous posts every day. Short and sweet.
I agree! Every funding bill will then be "clean" as King Obama and his court jester Harry Reid demand.
"We caved," the House GOP can say. "We gave them everything they demanded. They wanted clean funding bills and we gave them clean funding bills."
Hey I was tea party before there was one .Ha. I used to get flamed here for saying Denny Hastert and Tom Delay were big spending hacks. I was appealed at their ethanol laden farm bills.... No one here said a word.
This Congress is much more conservative then W’s and I’m pleased. So now I get flamed again..ha. Not by you we have good debate. Have good week FRiend.
