Time Is Short, but G.O.P. Leaders Say Shutdown Can Be Avoided
NY Times ^ | Sept 29, 2013 | BRIAN KNOWLTON and JEREMY W. PETERS

House Republican leaders said on Sunday that they still believed a government shutdown beginning on Tuesday could be averted if Democrats would accept at least some of their demands to scale back President Obama’s health care law.

“I think the House will get back together, in enough time, send another provision not to shut the government down but to fund it, and it will have a few other options in there for the Senate to look at,” Representative Kevin McCarthy, the House Republican whip, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

A fellow conservative Republican, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, sounded a similar note. “We are the party that’s willing to compromise,” he said on the CBS program “Face the Nation.” “They are the party that says, no way, we’re not touching Obamacare.”

“Shutting down the government won’t stop Obamacare but after Obama’s media eats the GOP alive the low ifo voters will turn on us with a vengance. Nancy Pelosi is very happy today.”

So let’s sell our political souls to go after low-information voters? How has that worked out for us so far??

Thing is I’m more optimist then most folks here. I think things are going our way. Obama’s poll numbers are down. Distrust of government is at all time high. That friigin lefty wiz pollster Nate Silver is giving the repubs a better then 50% chance of winning senate. That entirely beatable Hillary will run in 16. The Obamacare roll out will be a disaster. If we don’t screw things up we could run the table in 16 and just repeal the damn thing.

Well I think you are overly optimistic but let’s assume you are right and we run the table and we get to set the agenda...are you optimistic enough to believe that McConnell and Boehner will cut spending and reduce the size of government? What happened the last time we ran the table with a bunch of RINO’s? Government spending was still out of control and we introduced new entitlements (Prescription Drug) and new intrusive government departments (Homeland Security).

As a Conservative we don’t “win” just because a Republican wins.

We said that once before, and it cost us dearly. I’m not sure I really want to do that again.

So, to sum it up, the repubs already have the next red line drawn and are prepared to retreat behind it. Pathetic losers.

Someone just told me that “ Shutting the government down will not stop Obamacare from being implemented because it is a mandate.” Does anyone know if this is true?

Here is what CNN says (Item 5 on their list):

“The Republicans want to defund Obamacare in exchange for funding the government. But the health care act at the center of this storm would continue its implementation process during a shutdown. That’s because its funds aren’t dependent on the congressional budget process.”

10 ways a government shutdown would affect your daily life

Steven Goddard has been cranking out some very good stuff on his blog. Numerous posts every day. Short and sweet.

Wow. Really, now? How does the Unaffordable Care Act get implemented and funded, then? Through pixie dust?

More liberal garbage from our liberal faggist friends at the Commie News Network. Hate to break it to you, kiddos, but the government "shutdown" doesn't effect my life what-so-ever. I can see them begging now:

"But-but-but no mail! And uh-uh-uh-uh no, uh, garbage collection in Washington D.C.! IT'LL BE A TRAVESTY! Hope you don't need that permit authorized by the ATF! Because, uh, uh, they, uh, won't do it! Hahahaha! See?! Doesn't it sound awful?! You need us! You really do!"

No, idiot. I don't need you at all. I don't even need your G.I. Bill that YOU promised me and that I RIGHTFULLY earned. Thanks but no thanks. I will make it on my own. You will not win. You rule through the consent of the governed and I DO NOT CONSENT.

I think the house should break down the funding bill and pass it is separate chunks

I agree! Every funding bill will then be "clean" as King Obama and his court jester Harry Reid demand.

"We caved," the House GOP can say. "We gave them everything they demanded. They wanted clean funding bills and we gave them clean funding bills."
