DOD Issues Detailed Shutdown Guidance

American troops would continue fighting in Afghanistan if the government shut down next week, the Defense Department said Friday — but if any were killed, the Pentagon could not pay out their death gratuities until the government reopened.

That is just one ugly reality of the government shutdown for which DoD has been preparing, Pentagon Comptroller Bob Hale said.

...

The Pentagon has also decided to exempt funerals and dignified transfers of remains from a shutdown if one happens, he said — so if troops were killed during a shutdown, the Air Force could fly them to Dover Air Force Base, Del., and hand over their remains to their families.

All other activities need to be shut down in an “orderly and deliberate fashion,” including temporary duty travel, with a few exceptions.

Members of the military will continue to report to work, regardless of whether their job is affiliated with an exempted activity.

However, military personnel would not be paid until Congress makes the necessary funds available. The same is true for civilian employees who are required to work through the shutdown: the law requires them to be paid, just not necessarily on time.

For those civilian employees who are not required to work during a shutdown, their pay is not guaranteed. They would be furloughed, Carter wrote, placed in a “non-work, no-pay status.”

Targeted, limited time of duration Legislation can fix anything the Administration threatens the military with.

This sucks the big wazoo. We are just trying to do our jobs, but we’re held hostage to Congress’s inability todo their job.

This government had no problem with paying Nadil Hasan over a quarter of a million dollars after he went on an Islamic jihadist rampage killing over a dozen men, women, and children, and injuring dozens more.

FUBO

What is the current betting pool on how many days into the “shutdown” Obambi is seen on a golf course or hosting another White House Party for Hollyweirdos.

It sounds like we need to watch out for an attack on our “his” military, for retaliation for not getting his way.

But Hussein wouldn’t stop sending money to his Muslim Brotherhood all over the world.

Didn’t think any died under Obama’s imperious leadership.

We gave up on fighting in Afghanistan about 5 years ago, though an argument could be made we gave up long before that.

Does anybody recall seeing the similar article about the orderly shutdown of EBT Cards?

You won't get far with that specious argument around HERE.

Tell the Democrat-controlled Senate to do their Gaw-damn job.

Then tell Obama not to veto funding the government.

EBT cards are given by the state.

Laz is correct. The House passed a spending bill. But the Dem- and Rino-controlled Senate refused to consent.

I've been. But, of course, the Enemy Media will portray it as Republican's Fault.

Just mentioning, make sure to pin the blame where it really belongs.

You write, “This government had no problem with paying Nadil Hasan over a quarter of a million dollars after he went on an Islamic jihadist rampage....”

This I hadn’t heard. Obviously the government spent money on his medical care and provided him with a defense lawyer. That’s just SOP for anyone accused of a crime. Is that how you’re counting the quarter million, or is there something else? I’m not very knowledgeable about his case so I’d be grateful for any information.

Complete and utter nonsense. Our service members should be fully paid no matter what. Defense of the nation is priority one for the federal government. Pay for ALL non-essential federal employees and expenses must be cut or halted first, and that would obviously include anyone or anything connected to obamacare, the EPA, Education, Health, Housing, Welfare, Energy, Agriculture, Commerce, DEA, etc, etc, etc. Even pay and expenses for the elected officials and their bloated staffs should be halted or cut before any service member!! Do your jobs to defend the constitution or get OUT!!
