As the government nears shutdown, the fundraising arm of the Democratic Party is having a budget crisis of its own.
There's another budget crisis in Washington, and it's unfolding inside the Democratic party. The Democratic National Committee remains so deeply in the hole from spending in the last election that it is struggling to pay its own vendors.
It is a highly unusual state of affairs for a national party -- especially one that can deploy the President as its fundraiser-in-chief -- and it speaks to the quiet but serious organizational problems the party has yet to address since the last election, obscured in part by the much messier spectacle of GOP infighting.
The Democrats' numbers speak for themselves: Through August, 10 months after helping President Obama secure a second term, the DNC owed its various creditors a total of $18.1 million, compared to the $12.5 million cash cushion the Republican National Committee is holding.
Several executives at firms that contract to provide services to the party -- speaking anonymously to avoid antagonizing what remains an important if troubled client -- describe an organization playing for time as they raise alarms about past-due bills falling further behind. And senior strategists close to the DNC say they worry the organization appears to have no road map back to solvency. "They really thought they could get this money raised by the summer," one said, "but the fact is, from talking to people over there, they have no real plan for how to solve this."

Hussein's girl at the DNC. Heckuva job, Deb.
Checking the calendar: Yup, it was time for another “DNC is in tough financial straits” thread.
I bet if the DNC plays the song, “Saved By Zero” by The Fixx enough times Obama will bail them out.
Suddenly, we will hear that the Democrat party is too big to fail and needs a taxpayer bail out.
Picture that in your bed?
Not to worry, they’ve got plenty of illegal activities (to include the Obama(dork)care program with which they can siphon monies.
And they’ve got the Holderdork’s Just-Us Department of losers to make sure nothing is ever done about it.
And - the main problem with my reply is that we all know it’s twue, it’s twue.
Any suggested epitaphs on the gravestone of the DNC?
I just recently heard that Hillary is worth $100M. Obama’s got big bucks, too. Why don’t these people just pony up? No, they want the little guys to fund them. I hope the average Obama voter is worrying too much about what health care insurance will cost them & refuse to send a dime.
No big thang....They’ll just call Soros or the Saudis.
So they run their party just like they run the country.
Maybe they should hire Huma?
Their constituents are all on food stamps and their unemployment benefits are running out...
What? Did the HAMAS phone banks go dead?
Their policies have put so many people out of work that their base doesn’t have any money to give. That’s hilarious! Of course, the dictator will eventually write them a check.
Couple of nights in LA and problem solved. Oh yea, don’t forget to go by and collect from all the bankrupt green/solar companies you gave billions to.
Time for them to propose federal funding for all election campaigns.
The Halloween season is now officially started. Thanks mucho for the holiday pin-up poster of the DNC national charperson.
Hmm. Doesn’t the DNC get most of its money from big donors? Does this mean the rich and famous are falling out of love with the libs?
My understanding is Obama’s private fundraising group has tapped the normal deep pockets dry. That group, Organizing for Action is cash rich. But it hasn’t helped any of the local democrats with their campaigns like the DNC would. It’s totally Obama oriented.
