WASHINGTON The Senate will reject another government funding proposal from House Republicans, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Monday.
We are not going to do anything other than wait for them to pass our CR, because otherwise government is going to shut down, the Nevada Democrat said at a press conference. With just over eight hours remaining to avert a government shutdown, the House is expected to send back another funding proposal after Reid rejected an earlier bill.
The Senate earlier on Monday voted down a bill passed by the House on Saturday, which attached a one-year delay of Obamacare and a repeal of the medical device tax to government funding.
Politico reported that the House Republicans plan to bring a bill to the floor Monday that would fund the government and tack on a one-year delay of Obamacare along with the so-called Vitter amendment, which would take away the federal government subsidy that lawmakers and their staffs get for healthcare.
Reid said the Senate would reject that plan.
We are not going to change Obamacare, he said.
We are not going to be negotiating on this Our negotiation is over with. And Ive said that for two weeks, he added.
Reid said it was disingenuous for Speaker John Boehner to attach the Vitter amendment to the funding bill, given that he, like all lawmakers, has been aware of the federal subsidy since the beginning. Earlier Monday, Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California suggested that members who did not believe lawmakers or the staffers deserved the subsidy should simply give it back to the treasury.
Reid said they would also reject a one-week or several-day government funding bill, an idea that has been floated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
I heard the idea of a short-term extension floated. Let me be very very clear: The Senates bill is a short-term extension. Thats what it is. This is a six-week funding bill, thats all it is, six weeks. If we cant pass this, were really truly entering the banana Republican mindset, Reid said.
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer summed up the reasoning for not negotiating.
If we give an inch on the [government funding bill], theyll take a mile on the debt ceiling, he said.
With a bully, you cannot let them slap you around
today, they slap you five or six times, tomorrow its seven or eight times, Reid echoed. We are not going to be bullied.
I swear I though this was The Onion!
When the bully claims to be a victim of bullying...
FO off to you hairy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully, the Repulsicans will call Whorehouse Harry’s bluff.
B*lls to the wall, Repubs.
You back down now, and you’re toast.
We guar....an....teeeeeeee it.
As for Reid, I hope to be alive to take a bodacious Obama on that sorry piece of sewage’s grave.
” - - - We are not going to do anything - - - “
At last, Esteemed Nevada Senator Reid speaks the TRUTH !
Here’s to hoping Reid has a fatal aneurysm.. simultaneously with Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein and the 48 remaining dems, 2 independents and half or the republicans in the Senate.
RAT B@stard! Too bad our Senate is not like the House of Commons. I would love to see Ted Cruz and Dingy Harry go at it!!
Shut er down. The die is cast.
He couldn't have said this in a press conference, he must've whispered it up his sleeve.
Because this is not the story the MSM is running with today.
So, they say that if the Obamacare socialist nightmare isn’t funded, they’re going to shut down everything but essential government services.
Doesn’t sound like much of a threat to me.
More like a wonderful gift to an overburdened, over-regulated America.
Rep. Michele Bachmann, just came from House meeting, & said keep calling your congresspeople AND senators.
We have nothing to stop the communists empire from complete taking over America. When will Americans realize that America is on the road of collapse. All the communists Democrats have to do is just ride it out. With all the infighting in the GOP they have shot themselves in the foot. Stack the MSM supporting the Democrats we have very little chance of exposing the real threat to our freedom and may be to late to swing it the other way.
Truthful headlines you will never see.
Uh, Mike - - - , yeah.
Esteemed Nevada Senator Reid professes to be a Mormon.
The LDS powers that be may not want this particular image of one of their most famous role models displayed in this manner.
BTW, Esteemed Senators Orin Hatch and Jeff Flake are also Mormons.
Sure wouldn’t want any negative images of those pillars of the Senate RINOs to be displayed - - - .
Then shut it down and leave it down. No matter who gets blamed, sooner or later, if this goes long enough, people will look to the OTHER party and examine their stance too. I think this government is WAY TOO LARGE. Shut it down until the election next year.
**** harry. If you republicans cannot find the balls to fight back and pin this garbage on the party and the people that shoved this most partisan communist program through without discussion and debate and without a SINGLE REPUBLICAN IN DC VOTING FOR IT... HIRE ME AND I WILL MAKE THE DIM PARTY LOOK LIKE ATLANTA AFTER SHERMAN MARCHED THROUGH IT!
All the house is doing is giving the peasants the same one year extension granted to labor unions and business.
The truth will not be reported. The MSM are with the enemy.
Clear admission that the Dems are responsible for any "shutdown", as they will not negotiate.
If Reid was a Repub, the state-run media would be using these statements as proof of wanting a shutdown. But since Reid is a Dem, they cover him.
Don't you know that only the good die young? Oh wait, Reid's about 108 yrs along and Pelosi and Boxer might even be older than that. Guess the evil wicked blackhearts also live on. My bad
Happy to oblige!
MAKE DC LISTEN: TELL YOUR SENATORS, ESPECIALLY THE DEMOCRATS !

Adjourned the house until Jan 2014. Nothing to see here, move along.
I just turned on Hannity and I don’t like what I’m hearing. it sounds as though some Republicans are ready to throw in the towel. How could any MAN be bullied by wimpy Harry....go figure.
So, reid is more powerful than the president? how does the dirt bag have the authority to refuse to put a bill up for a vote? I have looked at the position description for the senate “leadership” and it does not state anywhere he has that authority....
Doesnt sound like much of a threat to me.
It's not much of a threat, but it's not much of a gift, either. Most of the furloughed people will get back pay when there is a budget, and will have done even less work than they normally do, i.e., zero, because they will have been on paid vacation.
Now, with legislators, that's usually a plus, because most of what they do is destructive. But with staff, I'd like to believe they provide some minimal value.
I’d like to break that off — at the WRIST — and cram it up his keister.
If and when government stabilizes why would/should government employees be given added vacation pay? It seems that a House controlled lesser budget could account for days not worked. The heck with padding employee pay checks that are already way above the average that Republicans have cited has fallen for ordinary workers. Of course I really don’t expect politicians with their staffs to see things in such a light.
As for Reid, I hope to be alive to take a bodacious Obama on that sorry piece of sewages grave.
You may have to bring a very tall ladder with a hole in the top of it......if you are a few minutes late after the funeral
THANK YOU! That sure does make it easy!
I read the DNC is extremely low on money, so let’s not forget to call the Dems, too. We don’t want to embolden them more than they already are, and our calls, together w/their low contributions to the DNC might at least get them to keep their mouths shut.
I dislike Reed very much. The one thing good I’ll say about him is that it doesn’t take him a week to figure out what his next move is. Contrast that with our Speaker of the House.
Boehner, are you listening?
Party of ‘No!’
Also swept under the rug is the fact that the House passed a stand alone bill ensuring military members who are required to keep working will get paid. It passed unanimously!
Reid’s ignoring that one too along with a complicit Media.
Reid and Reid alone refuses to ensure the military gets paid for the work that they will continue to do.
CALL YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM TO DEMAND A VOTE ON THE MILITARY PAY PROVISION SENT TO THEM BY THE HOUSE!!!
So fire ‘em, if they’re not essential.
Well of course they are going to reject it. So why even send another bill? The bill that was sent on Friday was a good compromise. Why not just stick with it. I’d say 4-5 days into a shutdown the Dems might be more willing to negotiate.
*With a bully, you cannot let them slap you around today, they slap you five or six times, tomorrow its seven or eight times, Reid echoed. We are not going to be bullied*
I expect a news report later tonight about how Reid is in critical condition in the hospital with a near fatal case of irony infection.
.............I’m sure his family will see to it that his grave, if any, is top secret as he is bound to have millions of enemies!
I have about 5 and worry about them, can’t imagine having as many as ole Harry!
