BOSTON As the federal government moved closer to a partial shutdown, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday criticized conservative Republicans in Washington for the failure of Congress to compromise and avoid a closure.
"I don't think there is a citizen who ought not be seriously dismayed by the willingness of a small group of radical right wing Tea Party members to drive the economy and the country over a cliff," Patrick told reporters on Beacon Hill.
Patrick said the shutdown "is a very dumb thing to do and a very disappointing thing."
Patrick criticized the U.S. House's approval of a funding bill that would delay President Barack Obamas signature 2010 health-care law for one year and repeal a tax on medical devices. The U.S. Senate on Monday voted 54 to 46 along party lines to turn down the House bill.
Patrick suggested that Republicans in the House are acting against the will of voters.
"Elections mean something," Patrick said. "Votes in Congress mean something. We've had votes, we've had elections and we've had a Supreme Court decision that affirms health care reform in this country. An awful lot of people will benefit from it. We need to move on."
Patrick outlined some of the effects of a possible shutdown.
"Ready or not, if it comes we we're going to have to deal with it. It is not going to be pretty.
"In addition to the big picture and how it affects an economic recovery nationally, something that no economist or analyst quarrels with, there are going to be air traffic controllers and food inspectors and other federal employees here, who if they do work, won't be paid for that work for a period of time."
"There are grant programs that get suspended. There are student loan programs, small business loan program all of that freezes in the event of a shutdown."
Obama said Friday that a shutdown would freeze federal loans for rural communities, small business owners and families buying a home.
The Food and Drug Administration said it would limit some activities but would continue to monitor recalls and would continue investigations.
The partial shutdown begins at midnight tonight when the federal fiscal year ends. Many employees face furloughs unless they are considered essential such as active military members.
Only in a country with a State controlled press could a public official get away with such lies unchallenged.
As government shutdown nears, Deval Patrick SHOULD be criticizing his petulant boss and his radical left-wing friends who are firmly opposed to the SLIGHTEST MODICUM of 'compromise', and who insist forcing a monstrosity down the American populace's collective throat despite thier 2-to-1 opposition of the raping.
Notice that it’s the liberals that is doing all the screeching?
Is this guy really that stupid or it is a normal state for Massachusetts politicians?
He has forgotten that the Tea Party was a Boston, Massachusetts creation and expression against excessive “taxation”.
Obamacare is a “tax”, therefore it is only historically logical that a new Tea Party arising to protest the illegal taxation of Obamacare should become a reality.
I guess you can’t fix “Stuck on Stupid” people and Massachusetts if full of them.
The river of lies keeps running yellow bile.
More of an accurate statement.
“radical right wing” ???
I can only wish for such. If it were large enough, America could possibly be saved.
STFU Obama lite
and he calls us radical when he supports and pushes a socialist and in some cases a communist agenda.
Why the hell would I compromise with a mugger?
this is how it works with liberals. it would go without saying that deval Patrick believes in the separation of church and state. (even though that’s a liberal invention because the constitution never says that).
but when asked how illegals should be treated, he replies,
“as jesus would”.
The MSM is trying to paint a target on real patriots who stand in the way of liberal socialist progressivism that want to convert individualsl with unalienable rights into slave citizens whose sole purpose is to fund the government so the slites can raid said funds. Yeah sure we’re rhe bad guyz.
Gov. Deval Patrick’s New Health Law Is Flat-Out Dangerous
Overview: The American Revolution, 1765-1783
From one perspective the American Revolution was a conservative movement based on the defense of American rights against the encroachment of the British government intent on exploiting the colonies for economic gain. The American people, according to this argument, rebelled against English authority to preserve rather than change the existing structures of society.
Radical right wing = anyone to the right of Marx.
I guess the Obama wanna be didn’t hear that both Obama and Reid don’t want to compromise...
