Posted on 09/30/2013 8:25:28 PM PDT by DJ MacWoW
As lawmakers squabbled, President Barack Obama spoke bluntly about House Republicans. "You don't get to extract a ransom for doing your job, for doing what you're supposed to be doing anyway, or just because there's a law there that you don't like," he said. Speaking of the health care law that undergoes a major expansion on Tuesday, he said emphatically, "That funding is already in place. You can't shut it down."

I wondered the same thing, if it is funded why all this rhetoric? If not funded what will he do...EO?
It’s over for tonight. The House just shut her down...
I think he seriously misunderstands our motivations.
The law that Obozo has revised several times, exempting government, refusing to apply to business as passed ... that law?
“...You can’t shut it down.”
Yes We Can!
Are you freaking kidding me?
Dem’s have done a great job creating government dependents. Shutting off the cocaine to these parasites is a bi_ch.
It’s not just one big plan. It’s a number of various plans that fit together. These plans are being implemented as we speak. This is why you’ve had businesses altering their employee plans, and cutting back on hours. It’s a big octopus of a plan, and every day we put off facing it, it’s tentacles become more entwined in our medical/insurance industry.
That’s why I was repulsed by the idea we delay it a year. Every day that goes by, this monstrosity becomes more embedded. By next hear it will be a major pain to eliminate.
They’ve already twiddled their thumbs for far far too long.
Shut it down. Its time to stop playing to Reid’s tune.
Maybe this is the only way to cut that $85 billion subsidy going to Wall Street???
Every day that goes by, Carter and Satan look better...
Boehner should recess the house for a couple of weeks.
Yup. It is called “Checks and Balances.”
My only problem with that is those on SS. In the 40's and 50's people were told it was their retirement and in a "lock box" They believed it. When government told WWII soldiers that they'd always be taken care of for their sacrifice, they believed it. People still trusted government back then. They'll pay for it now. Sad.
Dear Constitutional Scholar Bammy:
The Power of the Purse does not rest wit joo.
Like, um, Voter ID laws?... just to throw one out there.
Obama should have been around during Prohibition with that line.
SS is fully funded.
The Dems can’t stand the fact that the Pubs are forcing the issue just as they forced this piece of garbage down legislation down our throats.
The majority of people did not want it then and they don’t want it now and the Dems are still saying, “Tough shiite! You’ll do it and you’ll like it!”
No one is allowed to question nor engage in similar extortion. This is what happens when DC doesn’t listen.
Yeah, that “I won” BS is old. He thinks he’s the King of America, the little d**k.
Enough with the hand-wringing and nail biting. The republicans won the House, and they decide on how they want to spend the money. If the democrats don’t want to compromise, we cannot do anything about that. The House has tried several times to make this work. All the democrats did was nasty name calling, hate filled rhetoric, and over-the-top pronouncements.
A shut down will delay checks.
"or just because there's a law there that you don't like."
Unless it's DOMA, immigration laws, your own Obamacare provisions that you refuse to enforce, Voter ID...
I’m not sure how a government shut down may affect our family’s finances. I think it might hurt us. I say, shut her down. This is too important.
he’s right. They are doing what they are suppose to be doing. And they damn well better continue to do it to.
starve the beast!
it’s high time for Cruz and others to come out and point out all the laws Obama has changed/ignored..
The republicans are defending a law legally.
Can Zero say that about the laws he’s chosen to ignore?
Obama’s probably right on the funding, actually. Obamacare is funded mostly with mandatory spending that carries on unless specifically defunded in a bill. Even without that, it also can be funded with multi-year discretionary spending accounts the Feds have. On top of that, the Obamacare taxes can also help pay for the program regardless of a CR.
So whether CR passes or not Obamacare is not likely to be impeded.
Here’s a CRO report on it:
What Ted Cruz and company are trying to do is stop other aspects of government spending until language defunding Obamacare is included in a CR and passes.
sorry bo. but that’s exactly what the framers wrote. if there’s a law the people don’t like, take away the money for it. it’s called the power of the purse. it’s right there in the Constitution.
The Dems and Zero will “make it rain” with painful shutdown consequences. Got to hurt as many people as possible to achieve their politics.
Traitor Roberts’ decision claimed that the peeps’ reps were superior, but at the time of his treachery, the Congress wouldn’t have passed that poc.
boarder control, gun running, giving guns to terrorist organizations...
we could go on..
auto correct.. I tell ya..
Only if ordered by this administration. Entitlements are on auto-pay and fully funded by ongoing receipts.
I agree. I just have sympathy for those it may hurt. It’s necessary though.
Obama has changed the terms of the original bill, unconstitutionally. As far as I am concerned, that makes the entire “contract” null and void. It should return to the Supremes for a ruling on the changes.
Obama, not that is how it is supposed to work. This is about resisting a tyrant not just about one lousy law.
I don’t trust Boehner. Boehner, we’re watching you!
I think Obamanation just drew himself another red line!
In what was once America-before-the-Undocumented-Tyrant
“all were equal under the Law”.
Are all equal under ObamaCARE/DeathCARE?
I think not.
Not POTUS. Not Congress. Not Union leaders.
Not their families.
It is not a law and a death sentence.
It is merely a selective death sentence.
You have to carefully parse what he said. He didn't say "I" can't do that stuff, he said "You" can't! ;) Besides, the House (for once) is sticking up for the super-duper law that this law contravenes, so who's the more lawless??
Or in the case of Obamanomics, "Checks and Bounces"...
A shut down will delay checks.
Your allegation that Social Security payments will be delayed is a canard. As a matter of fact, local Social Security offices will remain open even if the government “shuts down”. Claims will be taken and other business conducted.
Please don’t spread unfounded rumors. Leave it up to the progressives to spread FUD in their attempts to frighten the American people.
That’s exactly what I thought.
This clown has ignored every law he dislikes, and illegally implemented every policy he can think of to advance his agenda, the law and Constitution notwithstanding.
He really is propped up solely by the media and the lowest information voters in society.
It’s such an insult to the rest of us.
This from the man who unilaterally ignores laws he doesn't like on a routine basis - such as delaying parts of this very law in which he speaks when there was no legal provision to do so, claims from himself the power to decide when the Senate is in recess and makes recess appointments when it is not in recess - because he doesn't the fact Congress has power to do that, unilaterally declares that laws that are on the books are not to be enforced (immigration laws for example) because Congress did not pass bills he wanted to be passed so he just declared the policies to be law by executive fiat illegally/unconstitutionally.
Shutting down in
From the link:
Refusing to include Obamacare in that funding would not remove Obamacares statutory validity. It is black-letter law that a prior Congress cannot bind the present Congress, and a statute cannot supersede the Constitution. Prior laws designation of Obamacare spending as mandatory cannot compel the current Congress to fund it as part of continuing-resolution legislation, nor does it alter the Constitutions command that all spending in that continuing resolution must originate in the House.
