The list of things on which Barack Obama has been wrong goes on to the crack of doom. But there's one thing on which the President is surely right. In devising his strategy for dealing with the shutdown, the prez can count on the MSM to blame Republicans.
Mark Halperin bared the president's calculus on today's Morning Joe, saying the Obama admin has little incentive to negotiate because it believes a "sympathetic" press will blame Republicans like they did in the 1990s, accusing them of being "obstructionist." View the video after the jump.
Halperin offered what amounted to an indictment of MSM bias. But no one on the panel made a peep. They apparently just took it as a given that is neither controversial nor objectionable.
Watch Halperin let the cat out of the bag.
WILLIE GEIST: Mark, at this point then, what is President Obama's incentive to negotiate? Because if he sits there, the law that he championed and the law that he got passed and the law that was upheld by the Supreme Court will go into effect. If he doesn't -- if he doesn't give anything up on this he gets what he wants. Why does he negotiate with Republicans?
MARK HALPERIN: Here what's the White House and to some extent the Hill is going to monitor. One is how the press covers the shutdown and does it just go back into the '90s mode of saying obstructionist Republicans are causing a shutdown and people, real people are hurting? And the White House is assuming that's going to happen. Then they're going to watch the polls and see whether it's not just partisan. Whether by the end of the week there are surveys that show public/private, that people are blaming Republicans and that that's going to put pressure on Boehner to come to the floor and either force his -- some members of his own conference beyond the handful who will never be with him on this to have a compromise. So they don't have to capitulate on the floor. They don't let Nancy Pelosi dictate what gets passed. So the White House does not have much incentive. Because they think--they think--those trends are going to go in their direction by the end of the week or early next week at the latest because again, the press is largely sympathetic to their arguments on this that it's the House Republicans' fault.

THE TRUTH BE TOLD TECHNICALLY IT WAS THE DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED SENATE AND OBAMA WHO SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN... yes, I needed to say this in high caps to make broad the message.
Radio host HUGH HEWITT: “And so everyone that you work with, or 95 percent of people you work with, are old liberals.”
ABC News Political Director MARK HALPERIN: “I dont know if its 95 percent, and unfortunately, theyre not all old. There are a lot of young liberals here, too. But it certainly, there are enough in the old media, not just in ABC, but in old media generally, that it tilts the coverage quite frequently, in many issues, in a liberal direction, which is completely improper....Its an endemic problem. And again, its the reason why for 40 years, conservatives have rightly felt that we did not give them a fair shake.”
Exchange on The Hugh Hewitt Show, October 30, 2006.
media = co-conspirators.
It's funny how the DemocRats demand civility, but then show none of it themselves.
Meanwhile, Boehner and company are still trying to be Mr. Nice guy when they should be shoveling it right back at the Rats.
The GOP better learn to fight back. Get in their face!
Rush said again yesterday that the number of Republican voters who sat out the 2012 election was 4 million. Probably one main reason for them doing that is that they see the Republicans rolling over and caving on every issue. The media might be out there blaming the Republicans for the shut-down, but what do the voters see? Could it be that the voters would see the Republicans as having finally grown a spine and standing up for what is right, regardless of media nattering nabobs?
Republicans should *never* consider what the media will say; the media will always criticize them. They should always stand up and do the right thing—it is what the voters want.
Old media work for him. 16 new ‘staff’ members just last week.
You know the media will aid and abet that strategy.
He felt it wise to present both sides of an issue as long as someone paid him to print it. He took no side as either’s money was good.
These Obama shackled media groupies make many of us want to puke.
Economic boycotts may help?
Thank God above for talk radio and Sara Palin.
The Clown is a major a-hat. A-hats don’t win. Resign.
Notso much this time. The blogoshere didn’t really exist in 1995. The media had a much tighter stranglehold on information that it does now.
And let’s also remember that the House districts are so gerrymandered that a member could get caught in bed with a dead girl, a live boy, and a mule named Bob and would still win the general election. It’s primaries that cost the their jobs.
This is the guy who when he worked at abc said, “We press are good for a 15% increase in support for any dim running for office”.
Think I’ll be hammering the good ol MSM today
Most mediots are more Marxist then Stalin.
Pray America is Waking Up
I watched a little morning news today.
As of 6:30 this morning, his strategy is working.
They are trying to villainize the Tea Party that is on the rise again after the illegal 0bama/IRS activities against it. Otherwise dhimmicrat turnout in the ‘14 midterms will be significantly down (the DNC is almost broke already from lack of donations).
Great cartoon. Being Democrats, they would avoid using the revolver.
I agree, but I question why? Unless the man child p_resident has granted them a hidden exemption from this POS legislation, are they not going to feel the pain of 0care? I just don’t get the unbridled loyalty of these lapdogs to The Won.
I'm sure I'll get an autographed picture in return.....
They are mostly life long dims who are indoctrinated into socialism and communism and all of the evil that comes with them.
And why in the world is not the NRC or some PAC posting prime-time TV ads to lay this at the Democrats’ feet? It’s a PR war in a noble cause. Why not try to win it?
Seems I’m not alone in wondering where the Republican PR campaign is hiding. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellengiuda/2013/10/01/the-secret-republican-obamacare-shutdown-plan-have-you-heard-about-it/
“What’s in it for them? Is it just a giant MSM circle jerk or what is it?”
The “progressives” have been actively taking over the media since at least the 1950’s if not before. They select “progressives” in their hiring and those who do not have the correct politics never get promoted, get fired, and/or are ostracized.
They view government power as the supreme good and are perfectly willing to give up profits “for the cause”.
What is in it for them is the belief in an agenda greater than themselves. They see government power as god on earth.
One of my friends got a journalism degree about 1974, then he worked his way up into a major market. Ten years later, he finally quit in disgust. He said: “If I do a story on Republican corruption, it is front page news. If I do one on Democrat corruption, it gets spiked.”
Occasionally, a rare “progressive” will be converted to conservatism, or at least a critique of “progressivism” after attaining enough prominence that they cannot easily be fired. They are then villified and attacked. That is what has happened with John Stossel, Mike Royko, and David Horowitz.
It's also great fodder for the media when Harry has them voted down, and the House Repubs stand before cameras talking about another attempt to keep the government running shot down by Harry and the Dems (not a musical group).
