Nearly two in three uninsured Americans say they will get insurance by Jan. 1, 2014, rather than pay a fine as mandated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), while one in four say they will pay the fine. Less than half of the uninsured say they plan on getting health insurance specifically through a federal or state health insurance exchange.
Gallup asked a nationally representative sample of 5,099 Americans between Sept. 17-26 about their awareness of several pending ACA provisions and their anticipated healthcare choices in the months ahead. The ACA requires that most Americans get insurance by Jan. 1, 2014, or pay a fine, and advocates of the ACA are urging the uninsured to take advantage of new federal and state health exchanges to obtain health insurance.
Overall, 83% of Americans are aware that most Americans will be required to have health insurance or pay a fine beginning January 2014. This awareness drops to 68% among those who are uninsured, and is at 69% among the vital group of 18- to 29-year-olds who are the most likely of any age group to be uninsured.
Although the uninsured's awareness of the individual mandate component of the ACA remains below the national average, it is up by 12 percentage points from a June 20-24 survey, when 56% of uninsured Americans said they were aware of it.

And that's before they have any idea how much "bite" it will have for them.
Wait until they see the prices, if they don’t qualify for full subsidies.
“And that’s before they have any idea how much “bite” it will have for them. “
Death spiral. Everybody with a pre-existing condition will sign up. But only a few percent of those who are healthy will sign up. Almost none of the younger people will sign up because of sticker shock.
I hate articles like this. Two in Three Americans will do.....blah blah blah.
That’s two in three Americans who DO NOT CURRENTLY have insurance. They don’t provide the actual number of people (of the ‘three’ as in ‘two of three’).
The media and the government are waging a war of inflated significance here trying to put across the impression there is a very, very large group of people without any insurance.
If this were true, then who the hell is using Medicaid?
The all qualify for subsidies. Even Mr Bill.
Because the Gubmint can't check. The computers aren't ready.
But the Regime has waived the requirement. So, there you go!
what would Thomas Jefferson do ?
Well, they won't now. At least not next year, thanks to our dear leaders on the Hill.
The GOP caved on the most important thing they should have stuck with which was the individual mandate. Sure the Senate rejected the latest proposal (just so they don't look like they blinked first), but once they (the Rats) look at what this latest capitulation does (or doesn't do really) they will agree to it so as to not disturb the sleeping sheep.
It's over. The country has lost. The slide into socialist mediocrity has inexorably begun. Now the sheeple won't have any "sting" to motivate them to vote next year, and so 2014 will see at most modest gains in both houses of Congress, which means that, despite all the hopeful rhetoric we will hear from the GOP to "motivate the base" for 2014 over the next year, the fix is in and NOTHING will change. Obamacare will now be too entrenched to ever repeal, even if we were to resurrect Reagan himself and run him in 2016.
It was a good ride, this Great Experiment once known as America. To the last person left: don't forget to shut the lights off before you leave.
they have no idea how much free obamascare will cost them..
Folks, there’s no enforcement of the fine.
They’ll buy because they don’t have a choice. Of course, as usual, they’ll be raking us working folks to pay for the welfare folks...and I mean the same old lazy bums who rake the welfare system.
Well if we do get stuck with this monstrosity then I hope tax payers don’t have to bail out the slackers anymore who just go to the ER for everything. If the taking class gets offered subsidized insurance and they don’t take it then screw em if they get sick or injured. Care for life threatening conditions only, anything else kick them the hell out.
“If the taking class gets offered subsidized insurance and they dont take it then screw em if they get sick or injured.”
They can get medical for free at any ER. So why would they pay anything? BTW, where would they get the money? They’re living off buying stuff with EBT and selling it.
“Wait until they see the prices, if they dont qualify for full subsidies.”
Those subsidies were the socialist punch that didn’t get much coverage; this is just another benefit working taxpayers are going to be providing for people unfortunate enough to work the McJobs that are our future. The people who refuse to work at all are already subsidized 100% by the taxpayers...
“The slide into socialist mediocrity has inexorably begun.”
It began in the 1930s, and one party has made it the norm. Anybody I know that votes Dem is either on a government payroll or on the dole in some form or other, and there are now enough of them to win national elections as out-of-the-closet communists.
“Almost none of the younger people will sign up because of sticker shock.”
Then the penalties they pay will subsidize the older, sickly people. By the time the people who pay the penalties realize there is a progressive increase to the penalties, they’ll be signing up as well.
These are probably mostly young people; Obamabots.
When my sons came of age there were plenty of plans out there for them. Yes, they cost money but health care does. It’s like these young folk never realized there was health care out there to buy, and plenty of choices fairly inexpensive. BCBS for a young person is about $100 a month where I live.
Now they are going to go to these programmed exchanges and get sticker shock, because in prep for obamacare with all its requirements the cheap plans have been wrecked.
“Then the penalties they pay will subsidize the older, sickly people. By the time the people who pay the penalties realize there is a progressive increase to the penalties, theyll be signing up as well.”
No matter how you view it the money doesn’t make sense. According the IRS the “bronze” plan for a family of four costs $20,000. Let’s say they get a $4,000 subsidy, so now it’s $16,000. When you add in their copays and the required out-of-pocket before it kicks in...The penalties never approach that the cash spent.
It appears Obamacare was designed by people who never lived in the real world. (Trust fund babies, perhaps.)
How about an option of don’t intend to buy insurance or pay the fine?
If rats really wanted those “free riders” to get insurance, why didn’t they just make the fine as costly as the premimums?
