For many years, those of us in the Arctic have been fighting the wood stove ban. The use of PM2.5 particulates has been an issue pursued by local agencies as a way to swipe at those who choose to live beyond the borders of traditional civilization. That attack has now extended to the rest of the United States.
In a stunning move, the Environmental Protection Agency decided to ban most of the operational wood stoves in the U.S.
In those places where there is you, God, and nature, the wood stove has represented that one thing that can sustain. Going after local PM2.5 particulates has been one of many methods to attack those who choose to live independent of government. As Off Grid and American Prepper survival report reveals:
The EPA’s new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called Burn Wise to try to sway public opinion.
On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they state that these older stove must be scrapped and cannot be resold.

I also have strike anywhere matches. They are great when first opened, the the local humidity seems to kill them.

When my boys were Scouts they would dip them in wax to keep them dry while camping. That was years ago and I’m not too up on that type of thing,but it worked for them.

When the power go out in winter my wood furnace WILL be fired up.
I’ve read about that and about dipping them in shellac. I can not find shellac anywhere!
I’ve also noticed that strike anywhere matches are no where as good as they were fifty years ago. Back then you could get them to strike on just about any surface, from a kitchen cabinet, rock, thigh pair of jeans, cast iron. Even your teeth for those wanting to show off. Now the white tip seems to be less sensitive to the scrape.
Ever notice how the “strike here” pad on the box of strike on box matches wears out after just a few strikes? Even the finest sand paper will not strike the matches.

I’ve just picked up on it from odd articles in alternative publications, like the one that began this tread. Since it applies to retailers and manufacturers who must now only make and sell approved stoves, no one in the MSM has bothered to inform consumers. It was apparent this was going to happen a few years ago when new EPA-approved stoves began carrying tax credits.
Like Cash For Clunkers, this simply removes any choices when we go to replace or install a wood stove. Incrementalism at its finest.
Next it is against the law to scavenge driftwood for that tiny beach fire! ON and ON!
Come to think of it BEACH FIRES are not allowed even now!
I was sitting here considering giving a new “back-up” stove as a Christmas present. I think family members have used the same one for total home heating, in way upstate NY, for over 25 years.

If you love it so much how come you aren’t here fighting to keep it like the rest of us? The only thing that is absurd is a person living in another country on FR. What goes on in the States no longer affects you as you so love to tell us all.

I found the $125 pool pump was no longer produced. Replaced by a new $390 approved model.
I guess I was sleeping when that happened too.

On more of a prepper note, I have been reading about rockett stoves. Does anyone have experience with them?

Their low end stove specs (Silverfire survivor) indicate that you can boil a gallon (5 liters) of water with about a pound (500 grams/17 oz) of fuel. It costs about $125.
They also have a version that you can use inside for about $170, and several larger versions that would appear to be useful for a hunting cabin or bug out spot.
I’m sure we will have FReepers celebrating!

We have an older pellet stove that is not on the EPA compliance list. If we decide to sell our house we need to remove the stove and put the fireplace back in working order.....according to California law. Our pellet stove puts out absolutely no smoke, we use it all winter long, at the risk of being ticketed on ‘no burn’ days.
So the house is to go from a no smoke pellet stove to a fully smoking fireplace according to the law. Makes perfect sense. lol
I'm pretty sure they are...unless this was satire?
