How Steve King Will Kill Immigration Reform
news.yahoo.com ^ | 10/2/13 | Fawn Johnson

There's no telling when an immigration bill will come to the House floor, what it will say, or who will support it.

Only one thing's for sure: Steve King will vote no.

And he's not alone.

The Iowa Republican has organized a small but growing number of conservatives who are committed to voting against any House immigration bill – no matter what it says – because they fear that the Senate will inevitably find a way to add "amnesty" to the equation.

King won't say how many members he's got on board, except that it reached "fairly deeply" into the GOP caucus. Lobbyists say it's somewhere between 20 and 70 members. Even at the low end of that range, it's enough to prevent any Republican-led immigration bill from passing.

King's "immigration whip team" began in January, when he learned that a group of House Republicans and Democrats were secretly negotiating an immigration bill that he was certain included a path to citizenship.

"I talked to Lou Barletta and said, 'We'd better prepare ourselves,'" he said.

The House's "Gang of Eight" has since splintered, with little chance of its carefully negotiated proposal making an impact in the broader immigration debate. But the House Judiciary Committee has readied four conservative immigration bills that make up the "piece-by-piece" solution to immigration, and the House Homeland Security Committee has completed work on a border security bill.

"I say to the sponsors, 'Paint for me a scenario by which any of these five pieces of legislation could become law without sacrificing the rule of law.' They're answer to me is, 'You're to help with that. You're to solve that,'" he said.

He solves it by saying no on everything.

Steve King is one of the good ones, up there with Cruz and Lee.

Cruz has hit on a wonderful strategy for dealing with the GOPe Leadership in the House. Most conservatives are fearful of crossing Boner, which will freeze them out of any decent committee assignments. Cruz can speak out for them from the safety of the Senate, where the leadership already hates him anyway. He can expose the tricks that Boner is using, like letting something get to conference so they can cave on it but claim they voted against it. Boner, exposed, has to do what he should have been doing all along. It is great fun to watch.

Why does what little strategy the Republicans have end up being plastered everywhere in the media? You never see Marxocrat strategy, like that little issue of arguing 0bamacare as a TAX before the SCOTUS being leaked ahead of time. That was an epic tactic but nary a word.

This is just SABOTAGE of Republican strategy.

“Why does what little strategy the Republicans have end up being plastered everywhere in the media? “

Most likely because the GOPe leaks it to try and subvert their “tea party friends.”

Yep, why don’t they spend their time secretly figuring out how to undo the Obamaconomy?

That’s what is really important to Americans.

They needs to be a third party or even a vote for a house Democrat to make the GOP House conference stronger.

That is what they should do. Get Gohmert, King and/or Lamar Smith to kill any enforcement bill in committee. All the Democrats complained Gowdy’s SAFE act will mean racial profiling. The only point of passing it is so Harry Reid can reject it and Goodlatte can say he tried.

If it is such a good bill they can pass it at another time. Between now and 2015 Obama will not sign let alone enforce Gowdy’s SAFE Act.

Goodlatte says he wants to pass an enforcment bill then pass an amnesty(so the law is enforce against no one).

It is much better if Democrats are coming out with their own amnesty bills. Then Goodlatte can propose one that will be half as bad as the Dem Bill. Pick apart every single loophole he created and there is no consensus to pass a bill this year. Poe, Labrador, Johnson, Carter and Diaz have been palling around with far left Democrats then come out and try to lecture other Republicans.
