TEA PARTY ACTIVIST LAUNCHES PRIMARY CHALLENGE TO BOEHNER
Human Events ^ | 10/1/2013 | Neil W. McCabe

As Speaker John A. Boehner (R.-Ohio) struggles with the budget crisis, a Troy, Ohio schoolteacher and Tea Party activist announced Sept. 30 he will challenge Boehner in the 2014 GOP primary.

Joseph D. “J.D.” Winteregg, who is a founder of the Ohio Accountability Project, a grassroots organization in Ohio-8, a congressional district bordering Indiana, said he is motivated by the gulf between the interests and values of the district and Boehner.

I have a friend in this district. There are many conservatives there who are very displeased with Boehner. Whether he can be primaried out is the question. It would be fantastic to do so.

From the article:
Despite the long odds, a Sept. 4 Human Events/Gravis poll of Republican voters in Boehner’s district showed that 50 percent would welcome a primary challenge to the Speaker.

Winteregg appears to be a perfect candidate - young, smart, articulate, motivated. He’ll need money and support but there is no reason why he shouldn’t give Boehner a run for his money. And even if he loses the primary, Boehner had made rumblings about resigning after the next election and this would give him a leg up in the special.

I usually hate Boner. But he did send a de-fund 0bamaCare budget to the Senate, and has stood firm so far on shutting down the government instead of funding communism on the hoof.

So, for this microsecond, I’m willing to give him a pass. The moment he caves (which I expect imminently), I’ll back his opponent.

But if by some miracle he sticks to principles for the first time in his life, I think we’ll have forced a spine into the crybaby after all. In which case, it’s hard to back an opponent to someone who finally does what we’ve been asking.

So I’ll wait a bit.

Ohio Ping

Rep. Boehner (R-Ohio) worked behind the scenes earlier this year to address confusion over a provision in the Affordable Care Act that would force members of Congress and their aides into the exchanges. In fact, if one were to go by the leaks, which were first given to Politico, it appears that the offices of Boehner and Reid regularly coordinated to exempt Congress from the health care law.

I grew up in Boehner’s district. As appealing as it is to replace him, it’s not going to happen. He’s an entrenched career politician and basically owns the Ohio political machine - including the local GOP. The GOP in the state is NEVER going to allow the Speaker of the House to be primaried out of a job. The implications to the GOP Elites would be huge. They will work to sabotage any rivals to him. I salute the bravery of this young man to step up. But unless he has unlimited funds to burn away he has virtually no chance to unseat Boehner.

You may want to see about sending him new voters instead of money. Withas many times as with voters in his district sent him back to DC, there may have been too much inbreeding and heavy metal poisoning there for any amount of money to overcome.

Almost 4 years of failure to defund Obamacare is proof enough that Boehner has been a failure as the Speaker of the House.

Boehner skated by during this battle ONLY because Reid wanted to shutdown the Government, and couldn’t care less about taking Boehner to the cleaners, as usual. Thank you, Senator Reid.

The next battle is what Reid is preparing for: Crushing all Republican opposition to a large increase in the Federal Budget.

Reid’s plan is to move quickly, (Obama is scandal ridden, and has but 3 years left if he is not Impeached), to enshrine Obamacare as a single payer, Federal Insurance system.

Then Federal Obamacare Insurance premiums can be raised by the IRS anytime the Democrats need to extract more money from the taxpayers.

Thus, Congress would not be involved in this tax money raising scheme.

As for the Republicans, Reid is unconcerned about them, as he has always been able to beat them EVERY TIME.

Well, every time that Boehner has been Speaker of the House.

After nearly 5 years on the job, Sobber of the House Boehner still hasn’t figured out that Reid and Obama are permanently emotionally stunted at the 2 to 4 year old, temper tantrum level.

Boehner must be the most stupid man in our sorry Federal Government.

Boehner was led kicking and screaming to not cave-in to Reid. That is to his credit, but just barely.

Boehner was waaaaaaaaaay to timid with 2 year old Reid, and damn near gave up on staying on offense by continually trying to cave in to 2 year old Reid.

Thankfully, Reid wanted this shutdown, convinced Obama to want it too, and avoided the temptation to take Boehner to the cleaners again. Thank you Senator Reid!

Boehner has no ideas left now so he must be replaced ASAP.

This First Reid Shutdown is a blessing in disgust.

Ignore the slings and arrows that the fans of Obamanation hurl at us.

They enjoy making noise and Federal messes, and they are good at it.

We Conservative Republicans have the responsibility of adult leadership to the 53 % of the voters who still pay their Federal Income Taxes. We have a lot of work to do!

The House needs to get rid of Boehner, replace him with a fighter, say Newt or Allen West (the House rules allow members to choose anyone, even non-members to be Speaker).

Then the new Speaker needs to appoint 3 Special Prosecuters : 1.) Benghazi; 2.) IRS; 3.) NSA.

This is a perfect time to clean up the mess that Obama, Reid and Pelosi have made, abolish Obamacare, and start to wean Americans off of the Federal Welfare teat.

Let the fans of Obamanation scream and holler, for that is what they have been doing for the last 5 years. Let them have their brand of hate-filled fun. We have work to do.

It is time for the Republican adults to lead the juvenile RINOs to clean up the dung heap that is truly an Obamanation.

Sometimes one has to work with the crew that one is saddled with.

Damn the Democrats! Full speed ahead!

_________________________________________________________

Fair enough. Even though you say “things aren’t the same now” - not really true. He’s as bad as he ever was. Boehner hasn’t changed a bit. But don’t you make the mistake of underestimating the enemy. There’s a reason that turnover in the House and Senate is negligible, very few get upended, and that’s why career politicians exist. The OHIO GOP is in love with RINOs. Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland - all the big cities are run by Democrats now. Wasn’t so a generation ago. That’s why Kasich agreed to ObamaCare setups - shocking TEA Party people nationwide. The Ohio GOP is aware of how un-conservative the state has become, and they’re going to get solidly behind Boehner - which means, expect virulent attacks on anyone who tries to unseat him. Good luck to the challenger. He’ll need it.

Thank you for making the point! I really don't know how one is supposed to be able to defund 0bamaCare when the funding is already separately built into the law, and any bills the House (including the Speaker) passes are ignored and effectively shut down by the Reid Senate. 0bamaCare has already been repealed 40+ times in the House (or something like that).

As Speaker, Boehner in particular has to be concerned about national issues as well as home district issues, and I am willing to listen to any arguments presented for or against him. As a resident of NE Ohio, I am just happy to no longer be "represented" by Dennis Kucinich...and I would also say that I would not be too harsh on Boehner, seeing as how he has an impossible job right now with an implacable foe in Harry Reid, and a completely intractable Administration to deal with under the "Chosen 0ne" and his legions of regulators and Cabinet appointees (none of which Boehner had anything to do with)...

He does know how "Washington works", which might be crucial to helping the next generation of Tea Party/Libertarian/Republican candidates succeed in breaking through the current Washington system and actually getting things changed.

IMHO, we don't need a new Speaker so much as we need a larger majority in the House, and a gain in the Senate, ideally even the majority, starting with 2014. You can't get blood from a stone, or Harry Reid, or President 0bama.

KUDOS to Mr. Winteregg for holding Boehner's feet to the fire, though...welcome to FR, and best of luck to you! I won't have a vote on this race, but should you win, you will have my heartfelt congratulations and support...I am sure you would be a terrific Ohio Representative!
