Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) offered to open negotiations on tax reform Wednesday if Republicans agree to a clean resolution to reopen the government.
Reid sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) pledging to appoint negotiators to a budget conference if House Republicans relent on a six-week funding stopgap.
The budget conference is something Democrats have long sought, however, and the proposal was quickly shot down by Boehners office.
Reid offered to include tax reform, which has bogged down in partisan politics this year, on the agenda. The letter suggested that Democrats would be willing to negotiate changes to ObamaCare as part of budget talks as well.

No! will be the talk!
Offering to talk means nothing.
I agree but, have the GOP keep sending bills to the Senate, and saying, “let’s vote on the things we agree on ...” - the sheeple get that. Action speaks louder than words ...
No deals with liars.
I thought that Harry wasn’t going to talk about anything but a “Clean CR” that provides funding for ObummerCare.
Nope, ain’t gonna work Harry. You see Leno last night? He asked the audience who is concerned about the government shutdown and NO ONE CLAPPED. lol
Nevada... Or as some might portray it, ‘Nirvana’..
What the heck were you thinkin,??
He’s been certifiable for years..
What does that say about you Reid voters?
The only form of tax reform I want to hear discussed is “The Fair tax”.
Reform is code for tax hike when Reid uses it.
The house should counter with "We will do a 6 week stopgap funding CR in return for a 6 week delay of ObaMaoCare."
Reid placing the football on the ground ... “I promise I won’t pull it away ... kick it Charlie Brown!!”
Nah...let’s keep the government shut down.
BS!!! They didn't accept any GOP input when they rammed it down American’s throats so why would they now?
I would consult Cruz on this but my response would be,,NO! as in HELL NO!
Let my WWII vets in to see their memorial on The People’s Property right now!
Give them one love and it will feed the fire!
DO NOT EVER TRUST A POLITICIAN WHO IS KNOWN TO BE ATTACHED TO ORGAINIZED CRIME. I know, that’s most of them in DC.
Give me everything I want now and I promise I will talk later... not that I will compromise on anything, mind you, but I will talk.
Did you see that last line?
the dems would be “willing to negotiate changes to Obamacare as well”...
I would ask,,what changes?
If Harry is starting to cave, this deal is hurting the dems for not negotiating. Keep the pressure on. Hold out for a one year delay.
Blow it out yer behind reid.
Yes. Keep sending individual bills. That strategy must be working.
First, pass a budget in the Senate. Then let’s talk about tax reform.
Just like they’ll “talk” about immigration reform once 11 million people are made citizens.
Or like how they’ll “talk” about entitlement reform after the debt ceiling is lifted.
Sent a new bill to Reid that is 100 % blank. Then tell him he will have to pass it, to see what is in it.
Just talk I guarantee..nothing will be done by Reid, but talk!
This is the typical game the demons play and the Republicans always fall for, just like Lucy yanking the football away after she has suckered Charlie Brown into trust her again.
This will be the dem tactic. Keep offering to talk about anything - any other topic - except Obamacare. They know if they can take the Republicans eye off Obamacare, it’ll be enshrined forever.
Lets talk about Voter ID laws
Lets talk about building that wall on the southern border
Lets talk about...
Just give up on this Obamacare crusade.
Sooner or later, they’ll make a quid pro quo offer the Republicans will find too good to pass up.
And then its over.
Yea I just sent a letter to a prosecutor suggesting my client would be willing to talk about his DWI after the state drops the murder charge.
Yea that’s how the real world works. Sheesh what an idiot.
Lol, the Tea Party Reps just cleaned the Demon Rats' clock and now dingy Harry says he'll talk about comprise IF the GOP gives them everything they want, for now?
Right... Not even limp wristed Boehner is THAT stupid!
I notice the word “relent”,,,in Reid’s offer
What? That makes no sense, and is like sending Reid a blank check.
...McConnell got Reid to agree to hold a high-profile debt-limit vote next month -- just before the president's State of the Union address...
Newly-turned Democrat Arlen Specter today hinted that that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reneged on his word to allow Specter to keep his seniority on committees on which he sits. "Sen. Reid assured me that I would keep my committee assignments, and that I would have the same seniority as if I had been elected as a Democrat in 1980," Specter said in a written statement today.
And they undoubtedly have the Rasmussen survey results in the back of their minds as they consider their reaction to Majority Leader Reids broken promise to confirm three appeals court nominees before the Memorial Day recess, as well as Reids sure-to-be-broken earlier promises to meet the historical average (17) for appeals court confirmations in a presidents final two years. With just a couple of months left in the confirmation window, Reid is less than halfway to meeting that average.
A good GOP Senate source reports today that Minority Leader Mitch McConnell addressed the entire Republican Conference about the judge-fight issue. McConnell is said to have been very insistent that he would not let Majority Leader Reid's broken promise go unpunished He would not tell the Conference exactly what action he was planning, but he did say it would be very firm, and that all concerned would know it when we see it. While Sen. Lott overcame numerous obstacles to get Paez and Berzon confirmed, Sen. Reid has looked for excuses to renege on his pledge.
GOP senators are understandably angry that Sen. Reid broke the golden rule of senatorial honor by reneging on his commitment.
To ease passage of the public lands measure, Reid promised Coburn the chance to offer a limited number of amendments.Reid: No Vote On Lifting Drug Import Ban Before Health-Care Bill
But after the majority leader objected to a Coburn proposal that would have eased restrictions on firearms in national parks, the package stalled for months, prompting Coburn to charge that Reid reneged on their agreement.
Coburn eventually got to offer four amendments all of which were defeated but not the guns measure.
Republicans accused U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., of reneging Tuesday on a pledge to allow a Senate vote on a measure lifting an import ban on pharmaceutical drugs before lawmakers take up health-care legislation.
The development, supported by major drug makers, comes as the Senate is moving to craft the politically delicate compromises needed for the broader health care overhaul bill.
In a letter to a bipartisan group of senators that have been pushing for the import ban to be scrapped, Reid said there wouldn't be time in the busy legislative calendar for full consideration of legislation lifting the long-standing prohibition now.
"He did commit to us and obviously that commitment is not going to be kept," Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., said Tuesday evening.
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D., Ore.) accused Republicans of trying to disable the administration by blocking the appointments, though he stopped short of saying campaign donations are directly attributable for GOP opposition. Merkley received $1.2 million from labor groups since 2010, including more than $275,000 for his 2014 campaign.
Merkley defended President Obamas recess appointments while the Senate was in session because functionally we were out of session. He also accused McConnell of violating a pair of gentlemans agreements to confirm President Obamas nominees without obstruction from the minority.
Obama and Reid reneged on a labor truce of their own when the Democrats re-nominated Block and Griffin to the board, according to a top Republican aide.
Why would he save one child with cancer when he’s got 1100 people out of work at Nellis AFB?
Nothing that spews from Reid’s sewer hole should EVER be trusted.
I would NEVER make a deal with Reid. No last smoke, last words or blindfold.
Massive massive fraud! I do not know one single person who voted for Reid. I seldom saw a bumper sticker or a yard sign for Reid. Sharron Angle was several points in the lead in the polls on election eve.
Yea, gimme what I want today, and we can discuss the possibility of me promising you something in the future.
Thanks, but no.
Typical Democrat. “You give us what we want first, and then we might talk to you about what you want.”
They might as well follow up with “And it can be anything you want, as long as you don’t get any of it.”
My Response back to him after watching that video is, We WILL NOT Negotiate with Terrorists.
Chuck Schulmer is the most dispicable Human I think I have ever observed. Followed closely by Harry the Mobster Reid.
Ted Cruz must have so incensed those cockroaches they have nothing but blood in their eyes. Wow, such hate.
They have been shown to be a bunch of conspiring treasonist bastards and they aren’t liking it one bit. They must be not enjoying the feedback from the Citizens very much.
Note to Chuckles, the more you make this about Ted Cruz the more publicity he gets. ALL OF IT GOOD!
‘So if you give us ‘clean’ CR will will agree to raise taxes’
Sounds like a great deal.
Why don’t you have your staff send some “confidential” emails to the opposite side?
Your credibility is shot.
Remember stalin. He, who counts elects. Never truer and I Hate stalin! May you rest in hades stalin, ever in the fire!
They need to keep offering “rifle shot” bills to fund all the little pain points that Obama and Reid want to punish the country with,
just to make it clear who’s causing the pain.
Go for it, but put in a sunset clause. Govt stays as is until the results of “tax reform” are presented, in say two weeks.
Give Reid a reopening of govt, and he has zero incentive to negotiate honestly.
