No reasoning with GOP on government shutdown
The Miami Herald ^ | October 2, 2013 | Joy-Ann Reid

Posted on 10/02/2013 6:57:33 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On the first full day of the government shutdown, Rush Limbaugh, the one true leader of the Republican Party, took to his “golden microphone” to declare that bringing hundreds of federal agencies to a screeching halt, threatening the economy with the loss of $300 million a day in lost revenue, and cashiering 800,000 federal employees was not so bad. Why? Because in Rush’s words, “Barack Obama’s base” will be having a “fine day” because they’ll still get their “welfare checks.”

If you want to understand why we are where we are, that’s all you need to know.

Despite all the pundits, political consultants and even some elected Republicans, who see the government shutdown as a disaster of epic proportions for the GOP, House Republicans have no incentive to care. In fact, they only have to listen to one person: Sen. Ted Cruz, because Cruz, a kind of Joe McCarthy-meets-Father Coughlin figure, is channeling a political base Rush and his ilk have been prepping for more than 30 years to be exactly as they are. What are they?

Immune to the results of elections, for one thing, in part because they simply don’t believe the results they don’t like. In the districts where the Archie Bunker bulwark of the Republican Party lives, Barack Obama lost both the 2008 and 2012 elections in a landslide. Nobody they know voted for him. And the people they bowl and watch college football and have backyard barbecues with hate the guy, and believe just like they do that he’s a Kenyan Marxist who stole the White House using a horde of fraudulent voters who in reality are a bunch of criminal “illegals.”(continued)

Do they really all get the same White House talking points every morning? Can't they at least change a word or phrase here or there? The McCarthy/ Father Coughlin thing has been used by dozens of leftists already. Is there affirmative action for editorial writers, too?

Yep, just like the people you play polo with, watch PBS with, and sip chablis with love the guy ... even though he's proven in every way that he's an incompetent ass.

I think that says more about you than it does about us beer-swigging Neanderthals, honey.

How does not paying 800,000 people to do much of nothing cost us $300,000,000 per day? I’d think it would save us that much?

One of the more clever things Rush does is to assemble a montage of the latest leftist talking points. Individually one might not notice, but when you string them all together it is hilarious.

Yes - they all do get same talking points and they all drink from the same toilet.

No reasoning with GOP on government shutdown

"Reasoning with the GOP", in the American Pravda Press mind, equals "Do exactly as we Democrats say, do not deviate an iota, we will not give an inch, you must comply utterly and enthusiastically."

Trayvon's sister?

Quite the edumacation failure.

"They also reject the concept of majority rule, living instead by the rules of the post-Reconstruction South, where nullification of federal law is just another way of saying “stand and fight for your values.”

And they’re frustrated with a Republican political class in Washington who they believe has sold out and buckled to Democrats (and the media) for far too long."

Dear: We DON'T live in a Democracy. Besides the 2012 election returned a GOP(e) majority to the House (or don't U know nutin' 'bout the Constitution?)

Miami Herald,

Your so called principled argument is undermined by a simple fact: President Obama has unilaterally and illegally delayed 35% of Obamacare already. By doing this, Obama has opened the door for Republicans to suggest their own changes and delays. If Obama isn’t confident in Obamacare, why should the House of Reps be confident in it?

And by the way, the House of Reps is a legitimately elected body of our federal government. Label them “Tea Party Extremists” or “Right Wing Whaco’s” or whatever you want, but the fact remains this body represents about 50% of the voting public.

Obama’s job is to deal with the House....however they are represented or whoever they are. He’s the President of the US, not a king. Obama should stop wishing for the reality he wants and start dealing with the reality he has...which at this point and time time is a contentious House of Reps all up in his face over Obamacare.

Deal with it...Mr. President!!

In the end, the GOPs compromise position of delaying the individual mandate and requiring Governmenn employees to go onto Obamacare seems immenently reasonable to me (especially in light of the numerous delays Obama has already illegally implemented). The Presidents job is to either convince me that I’m wrong on this point or to find some common ground between us by somehow bringing other points of contention into the discussion and reaching a political compromise....

Instead Obama calls me an extremist and then hits the golf course!!!

You know as I sit here and think about it: The real problem in this country isn’t the GOP or the Tea Party or even the liberal media or the Dems for that matter.

The real problem is that President Obama has no idea how to be a President!!! Becuase of this the political left, right amd middle will all suffer.

And where does this $300,000,000 cost per day come from?

800,000 people collecting an average wage of $200 per day = a savings of $160,000,000 per day.

If all those people not working for the government makes us lose $300,000,000 per day, just have the government employ everyone in America and think of how rich we will be as a nation?!

How can the media not ask government mouth pieces to back up their claims with data?

The voters of Miami and all the news papers & outlets that foolishly get their information from that propaganda outlet.

If republicans were not to be “reasoned with” we would not have passed so many bills trying to compromise with the democrats with a budget. Nor we not be constantly trying to negotiated.

Obama and the democrats want everything or nothing. That is the attitude of a child.

Republicans have by their deeds PROVEN that they not only can be reasoned with they are trying everything under the sun to be reasoned with. There is simply nobody at the other end of the table people. The democrats are a kid in a candy score demanding everything or nothing.

Bingo... I think that the Dream Act by Exec Order requiring those illegals to sign up by Aug 15, 2012 was a way to add “illegal” voters to the rolls. I bet if we got hold of that list, along with the welfare rolls in certain states, we’d find that ALL OF THEM VOTED FOR OBAMA... even if they never left the house.

It really is quite astounding when he dies this They’re all like 5 sec clips all the exact same wordage and seemingly they’re saying it with a straight face

I think the house finally has picked the right time for this. There’s no election in sight and the dems are instantaneously over the top with the rhetoric.

Now the problem is that all the drones literally do not pay attention.

All my friends and wife are drones here in ca ( she’s hot so it’s all worth it )

So the point is maybe if we make them keep squealing for at LEAST a couple weeks. Maybe then well be able to get just a couple million more middle of the roadr types to see that mark levin. Et al are right and ALL they are truly about is Fedzilla and the Leviathan. And. NOT mom and pop
The immigrant
The female
The poor

Etc

One can only hope.

I’m kinda with Dennis Miller. It’s all over. Just a matter of time.

Too many fools among us

WaaaaaaaY. TOO MANY. And they VOTE. Two or three times

Oh we’ll.

Just get out the popcorn.
