According to the House Committee on Natural Resources, the Obama administration has taken the unusual step of shutting down ONLY the MOST POPULAR tourist memorials in the nations capital, including the World War II Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the National Mall. Other, lesser-visited sites, have been left open. [T]he Obama Administration is applying this policy inconsistently and choosing which memorials to block off and which to keep open. While these popular monuments remain barricaded, other U.S. Park properties such as the Constitutional Gardens and Japanese Americans Memorial remain completely open, the Committee said in a press release.

Don’t forget White House Tours.
This is as utterly shocking as that Republican donor Chevy dealers were closed, irrespective of sales numbers, a few years ago. Which is to say, not shocking at all. It’s all politics with this tool.
National Public Radio still on the air?
National Public Radio still on the air?
I see that Panda-cam will not be available during the shutdown (because people were excited about the birth of a panda in the national zoo) and that will save...uhm...how much? More than shutting down eVerify? That’s right folks, the government shut down the ability for employers to check the legal status of employees to work. A website. Oh and Civil War battlefields are closed. Yup. Found this information on the following website:
Hopefully there is a full account of all programs, parks and monuments that are sacred cows or just ignored.
Rush, Hannity, Oreally, Greta, Levin should all expose this phony tomorrow and smoke stack this contrivance.
Agreed. There is no reason for some of the closures. In Central Washington State at the Hanford National Wildlife Refuge there is a gravel road to a boat launch on the Columbia river. Right now is the prime time of the Fall Chinook “King” salmon run and the unmanned, unpatrolled, no fee, no services road to that boat ramp has been closed. The next nearest boat ramp is 25 miles away. This year is the largest Chinook salmon run on the Columbia since they began counting in the 1950s and now, daily boat access to the Hanford Reach is limited with hundreds of boats now trying to launch on the only other ramp available for this 30 mile or so stretch of the Columbia. I’m glad I was able to make it there last weekend. We got to the river at 5:15am and it was an hour and a half before we could launch because of all the fishermen. I know the launch that is further upstream had as long or longer lines to get in the water. I can’t imagine how much of a mess it will be this weekend. I guarantee you Obammy isn’t scoring any points with the Columbia river salmon fishermen. Oh I should mention too that you can’t just launch and beach or dock your boat. There are no docks and the water level fluctuates so if you beach it, the boat could be completely out of the water in as little as an hour.
There is no reason for closures like this. I can see manned museums or places like that, but it surly costs more to close places like this than it would to leave it open.
What ARE the Obamas hiding in the White House, hmm?
To #9. Remember, the Democrats run your state of Washington. That is where to put the pressure on - national, state and local politicians, esp. those up for any re-elections in the next few years.
Make the Obamites go against their Master. (Do you really think a Washington State Democrat has the balls to do that? I don’t. They have more in common with the marxists than the old style liberal Democrats, and Oregon is just as bad.
You are stuck in a Kafkaesque Hell with “No Exit”.
Well duh! It’s all part of the propaganda play! You peasants are just here as props.
WW II VETS: Normandy, was also closed we when got there!!!...Hussein Obama...tear down YOUR BARRYcades!!!
Interesting information/data tidbit. The WW II Memorial is PRIVATELY funded. It is an open facility accessible from adjoining sidewalks. How does Hussein Obama closed this facility? By what right?National World War II Memorial
The National World War II Memorial was funded almost entirely by private contributions, as specified in Public Law 103-32. The campaign received more than $197 million in cash and pledges. Support came from hundreds of thousands of individual Americans, hundreds of corporations and foundations, veterans groups, dozens of civic, fraternal and professional organizations, states and one territory, and students in 1,200 schools across the country.
Donated and pledged funds were used to cover the total project costs of approximately $182 million. These costs include site selection and design, construction and sculpture, a National Park Service maintenance fee required by the Commemorative Works Act, groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies, fund raising, and the 11-year administrative costs of the project from its inception in 1993 through completion in 2004.
Remaining funds are held on deposit with the U.S. Treasury in a National WWII Memorial Trust Fund. The funds will be used by the American Battle Monuments Commission solely to benefit the World War II Memorial.
Take it down......
This is your country. The Federal Government needs to be put in it’s place. Get a few of your fishing buddies together and reopen the boat launch.
If they re-close it, take it down again...
According to Drudge the cemetery at Normandy is closed.
I have also heard that there are outdoor monuments which are closed. Just a location on a sidewalk or in a park, where you just walk up to them and around them, and now they have velvet ropes around them, and a man advising that the location is “closed” and you can’t enter. (Such as, but not necessarily including, the Viet Nam war memorial.) Not only stupid, but somehow telling in a sinister way.: what exactly are they trying to accomplish? Despite the shutdown, they can somehow pay someone to set up the velvet ropes and keep people out?
They put Barry-Cades along the side of roads that had parking spaces for scenic overlooks. Like somehow, it would cost them money if people pulled off the side of the road.
But nobody is being arrested. As one person said, if you see a barrycade, just go through it. If there is someone there telling you not to, ask them if you will be arrested for moving the barrycade, and if they say no, walk through.
I’m not ready to get arrested though. I no longer trust that our judicial system will be fair, and I can see Obama and his justice department targeting republicans while letting democrats walk free.
