"Grocery stores on Army bases in the U.S. are closed. The golf course at Andrews Air Force base is open."
(Excerpt) Read more at yahoo.com ...
These people are evil.
Please post proper link to article.
This affects me; an inconvenience. Can’t shop at the commissary (appropriated funds) but the local grocery stores will be happy to get the business. Golf courses are a different pot of money (non-appropriated funds).
I can’t find it on Yahoo, but here’s Bloomberg article link:
Different pots of money. Commissaries take federal welfare, golf courses are self funded. Huge difference.
the golf course is a money earner as is the BX so they stay open
besides barry has to play golf somewhere they allow black people - and shut down for him - and his mega donor cronies in the DC burbs haven’t offered up their private clubs in Chevy Chase etc for that
Perhaps. This is absolutely the worst executive leadership in my lifetime. However, these are the "leaders" your fellow citizens have chosen. What does that say?
FU, Mr. Obama. Keep bringing pain on the American public, and see where it gets you.
Commissary at PAFB closed too.
Explain that to the National Park Service.
The WWII Memorial was built with private donations, and a trust fund pays for operations and maintenance.
Yesterday, I posted a blog entry from a guy in Arizona that operates campgrounds on federal land. They are completely funded by fees paid by campers. The Forest Service is closing him down, apparently on orders from the White House.
Isn't Andrews where Obama plays golf?
Let them eat cake.
I’m actually surprised to see this story posted with the title it has. Are the collectivists starting to turn on Barry?
Thanks for a proper link. The article explains why this is so but it is nevertheless disturbing to read. I was sitting next to a GS employee on a recent flight and he informed me that most commissaries and exchanges in the US will be closed next year for budgetary reasons. I guess our stateside troops are getting an early tase of what the future holds.
Commissaries are part of an “earned” benefit package - perhaps one of the biggest benefits
Think the benefits are generous? Then join the military, it’s all volunteer
Might as well say military salaries and military healthcare are also “welfare” and lump soldiers right in there with the takers
priorities priorities priorities
I am retired military. I am just being truthful. Try it sometime, you will feel better.
“Are the collectivists starting to turn on Barry?”
I wouldn’t bet the farm on that.
Ditto with Mt Vernon- never took a dime of federal money but yesterday obamagoons barrycaded the Mt Vernon tour bus turnaround area for “maintenance” as noted by Newt Gingrich by a twitter feed
someone in barry’s administration had a well planned hit list of sites to target to punish the half of the American people who are resisting the Won
and within 48 hours! who says they can’t be efficient
So are the campgrounds at the National Parks and Forests. They kick the last of the campers out today, even though the parks make much more money than they cost. The private companies that run the parks were ordered to lock 'em up, and as a final insult, were ordered to purchase the Barrycades to keep us out.
Earning money is not a factor for Obastard. Earning money is evil.
Someone please explain to me why grocery store shelf stockers are federal employess with taxpayer funded benefits and pensions. Cashiers too.
The more this unfolds, the more it looks like Valerie Jarret’s fingerprints are all over it.
To be fair, Obama and his people often lie about their plans.
so am I
If commissaries are “federal welfare” what is “untruthful” about considering all military compensation as “federal welfare” and therefore on the same level as handouts to people who contribute nothing?
Try being rational sometime, we’ll all feel better
I am retired Army and you are correct. I laughed out loud when I read that General said GIs save 30% in the commissary.
It says to me that the Repubs have done an F- job for the last Six years by being RINO's!
Fire Boehner, NOW. It's never to late~!
Lol. I have seen many people use welfare when getting federal funds. Heck people say it about the farmers in Iowa all the time and that is just one example, however for this case, I will use federal funds. Your right I do feel better. Thanks for your service!
For all the crap these people put up with like crappy pay, poor leadership and being ordered to take part in conflicts with their hands tied, Why would anyone begrudge them cheaper prices on stuff on a base?
Part of the military compensation package
Has been for decades
Go talk to a recruiter
He’ll tell you about all the benefits of signing up for military service. Go for it! Sign up your wife and kids too!
See the world. Meet strange and exotic people from many cultures. Who want to kill you. Unless you kill them first. Just watch out for a court martial if you do.
PS: Military doctors nurses technicians etc and dentists are federal employees too. Part of the “free medical care for life” sold to sign up 30 years ago. Except now it aint free, rules changed. Retirees get MEDICARE (oh there we go using federal welfare again) and pay to use military facilities if we can even get in.
Hope this explains it. If not a recruiter can help ya
She is taking no prisoners
AAFES budget comes from sales. The local BX has not shut down and sent out email saying they will remain open.
“I wanted to let you know that the Exchange will remain open should the federal government shut down. Although the Exchange is part of the federal government, 97 percent of our budget comes from customer sales, less than 3 percent from tax dollars. Some transactions may be delayed, such as the purchase of firearms, which require background checks or other federal government actions.
The Exchange will do everything possible to continue to support the men and women who serve America and their families. Feel free to send a note if you have further questions.”
Meh, some of my remaining active duty friends are complaining abt commissary closures but using coupons and going on military discount day may save you more money. Kind of like what the civilian world does every day!
Yeah, I know people who are on their 3rd deployment to Afghanistan and some people here begrudge their families saving $1.50 on a gallon of milk
Good for you!!!
It’s a huge difference between serving and having govt benefits and being on welfare, EBT and Medicaid but few people understand it....
pisses me off.
so Civilians have to put up with deplyments and the very real possibity of being either killed or maimed?
Just like the civilian world keeps an eye and ear on the TV to find out if the Afghan base or Middle East carrier group their spouse is deployed to took any casualties overnight, eh
Elites need to golf, cartels need guns, Al Qaeda needs materiel, illegals need freebies, the downtrodden need tattoos fingernails and salon treatments, deadbeats need 0bama phones, countries around the world need rebuilding, dictators need payoffs, Iran needs nuclear weapons, Michelle needs deep tissue butt massage, etc.etc.etc.
Daughter says the NEX is open because they sell uniforms. But the commissary is closed. She and her hubby stocked up knowing this was coming. Their neighbors did likewise. Daughter and son in law are feeding some single guys who rely on being able to purchase food daily as the barracks do not have storage for perishable foods. So these single guys also bought food for daughter and son in law to store.
Yes, “foraging” at the local Aldis is usually less expensive then the PX/BX.
Now, the Class 6 (alcohol) store being affected would be something different. And isn’t that what we’re really talking about here?
And many don’t know that we pay a service fee on our commissary bills...
I think it’s her because Barry ain’t that smart.
Disingenuous is a better term for what you are saying.
Active duty and retiree benefits are part of a compensation package; given as payment for services rendered. It does go to the welfare of the individual; it's cost to the individual is far from free, though.
Federal "Welfare", whether individual, or in the form of subsidies to businesses, non profit, etc is largesse, plain and simple. It is given as a a gift, or favor. It costs the receiver nothing, and when it comes from the government, it doesn't cost the bestower anything, as well.
Are they overseas? Everyone has to eat. There are stores outside the AAFES world and prices are usually competitive. The only advantage I ever saw in the AAFES Commisary was in VAT countries, such as GE, where local taxes were avoided. But even then the SOFAs usually allow a reimbursement of taxes.
If I may add: inability to build up home equity because of moving; no consistency in medical care; instability in education to name a few more.
But we knew that going in and felt serving and enduring these burdens was worth it...the benefits just helped ease the sacrifice.
It’s actually a pretty ugly system where they use veteran benefits to try to lead vets into just another ‘taker’ voting block.
There have been hundreds of thousands of ‘nonessential’ VA employees put on furlough.
“Different pots of money. Commissaries take federal welfare, golf courses are self funded. Huge difference.”
Exactly. And if I were back in the military, I would “forage” (brother!) for my food at the grocery stores, just like the rest of the population, and be grateful there was food available.
I am kinda hoping the NEX will extend its food items to include bread and milk alongside the snack stuff etc
Wont be as cheap as commisaary but at least will be on base where people can access it
Its surprising how many military families depend on base facilities for lack of cars or gas
I feel ill in my stomach for the commissary employees now furloughed with no back pay, many are older people, retired vets, and some handicapped
after shopping there for almost 20 years they seem like friends
Not my point AT ALL!
While this crap is going on, there are ways (hopefully, temporary) to ease it.
Cool your jets there, sparky!
