Orangeburg County Sheriffs Office
Deputies are checking Midlands hospitals for someone with a gunshot wound after a would-be burglar broke into an armed 85-year-old womans residence early Sunday.
The locked-and-loaded Kennerly Road woman said she was awakened by her dog barking at about 2:15 a.m. She said she grabbed her handgun and went to investigate. When she entered her dining room, she came face to face with an intruder, according to the incident report.
The womans first reaction was to yell at the intruder, What are you doing in my house? She said the man didnt budge nor answer her inquiry. Her second reaction was to raise her handgun and fire a round at him.
That got a reaction from the intruder; he ran. The woman said the subject ran out of her back door and fled up a nearby dirt road.

Check the dirt roads first!
Good for her!
A woman can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many guns.
At least we know he/she/it wasn’t on bath salts because she/he/it ran when the gunshot rang out.
Damn, girl! You missed!
Older women are not to be trifled with. :-)
G-d bless SC.
Statistically speaking, this is an anomaly.
People who keep old women in their homes are three times more likely to be injured by their own old woman than to injure an intruder.
I’m of mixed minds when it comes to “Tuco’s rule” in your home. It’s a big judgment call.
Probably the silliest time was when a big friend was visiting and I had the flu. He had been away to the mountains for four days, hunting, while wearing camouflaged fatigues and even face paint, with a group of other hunters. On the way back they stopped to render aid to a woman whose car had flipped off the road cliff and was upside down between two boulders.
While not severely injured, she was bleeding, upside down and hysterical, and it took their whole group to get her out of the car, and heft her up a hill to an ambulance.
In any event, in addition to the camouflaged fatigues and face paint, he was covered in blood.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I felt raunchy, and made the poor choice of sucking down a big bottle o’ Burgundy and four cans of malt liquor. Sitting on an easy chair feeling even raunchier while watching daytime TV in my bathrobe.
Well, he opens the door, and through bleary eyes I see what looks like a black NBA player wearing bloody camouflaged fatigues and carrying a hunting rifle. Rising from my chair, sick, drunk, unshaven and wearing a bathrobe, with a revolver in hand, I lurch into the kitchen to confront the intruder, blurting out, “Can I help you, sir?”
It took way too long for me to realize that this was my still adrenaline wired friend. “Hey! It’s me!” from him helped considerably.
Recognition came in the form of my trombone vomiting Burgundy-beer stomach upset all over his chest.
Not his best day. Or mine.
I believe that a sober life is essential for responsible gun owners.....especially if you have loved ones living under your roof.

I resemble that remark and agree although I cannot confirm the actual stats.
Normally yes, however, at the time I had the flu, no loved ones living with me, I was not expecting him back, and most importantly, I made a serious effort to identify my target.
I am the furthest thing to being quick on the trigger, one of the reasons I generally prefer a knife in close quarters.
That is why they call a pistol the great equalizer.
