Why is anyone surprised at Harry Reid’s answer?
Socialism/communism/US Democrat Party is not interested in the welfare of individuals but worships at the altar of Big Government only.
Should have commercials with that snippet throughout the upcoming elections.
Harry Reid goes to Chuck E Cheese to pop kids birthday balloons. He pushes the kids faces into their birthday cakes. “Die you little pizza munchers! Die!”

Conservatives need to beat Harry Reid over the head with this until the handle breaks. And then do it some more.

In the main, I agree with you. It’s quite a legitimate argument you make.
I would also submit, however, that Reid’s obstructionism was the point of my post.
On that we agree. I'm sure no one could think higher of Reid than I do.
That is the wrong question. Sure its not conservative but its useful. We ultimately are going to fund it and the rest of the government. I do think this does offer an opportunity for us to make a point by offering private funding to make sure kids affected don’t go without treatment. I’d be in favor of a bill that would offer volunteer direct funding of govt by citizens in event of shutdowns so that we could provide examples that the private citizen can and will help. The goal is to defeat Obamacare and win this battle. We have Harry Reid being a heartless fool and we need to capitalize on it. Democrats get away with pretending they feel your pain etc and GOP have an option to drive home the message that this is a lie that what they care about is CONTROL.
Harry Reid and his minions are killing funding for veterans, national guard, parks, cancer patients, and D.C. on CSPAN2 now.

Attempting to exploit this makes the messenger just as guilty of what the left does - fabricating phony "scandals" by trying to create false outrage out of something the speaker never intended to say or didn't say at all.
We should leave this one alone. It isn't true, and isn't legitimate.
Nope There are many things that are "useful" that are beyond the legitimate scope of government. By dragging this in you validate all sorts of welfare.

I admire Jesus Christ. Imagine Him, teaching on the Temple Mount. He was confronted by hyperventilating louts who wanted to trip Him up.
His approach was not to use the "Hey, so I guess YOU just really want kids to get cancer! Huh?! Well DO ya!?" line.

You know, I even take your point. From your question, it’s not really a truly conservative viewpoint.
But let’s also take every opportunity to point out that Harry Reid has no soul. No heart. No thought process that doesn’t involve his own personal advantage. He showed it for all the world to see and he should pay for it.
I sent Reid’s office an e-mail asking him why he hates children with cancer so much.
