Even with subsidies, millions of people coerced to sign up will stop paying premiums. ..... Families living paycheck to paycheck will default in order to make rent or car payments. This is the mortgage crisis and the college loan crisis all over again.

This is one of those unintended consequences that seem to be missing from the diatribe of our media geniuses.
If they don’t pay the personal mandate fine/tax then there is nothing the IRS is allowed to do about it.
Just don’t pay.
and if those who default on their monthly premiums will they still be subject to the IRS penalty?
You bet your OBAMA they will. Unpaid Obamacare premiums will be added to your tax burden. Failure to pay your IRS taxes will lead to forfeitures, seizures, garnishment of wages, even imprisonment if things get too FUBO.
Welcome to a “Fundamentally Changed America.” At least Dear Leader kept one of his campain promises.
***If they dont pay the personal mandate fine/tax then there is nothing the IRS is allowed to do about it.***
Remember, it is a TAX. The IRS will eventually find a way to collect, and it won’t be pretty.
RE:”Remember, it is a TAX. The IRS will eventually find a way to collect, and it wont be pretty.”
The law forbids that, except taking your tax refund instead of sending that to you.
Yep—its government La Costra Nostra organized legalized crime. Fork over their DC mafioso extortion ‘healthcare protection’ fees or the goons will come calling.
The IRS is allowed to withhold a tax refund, if any.
Also, as a knowledgeable poster pointed out yesterday, if the penalty money is comingled with other monies owed, the IRS may be able to come after the combined amount through liens, garnishments, seizures, etc.
Have a job? Work hard? Contribute to society? You will be punished...
Cloward-Piven at work.
And if your refund is less than the fine you can bet they will come calling. never trust Government promises!
Remember, Social Security is not the same as was promised. Neither is Medicare. And remember the Catastrophic Health Care act of a few years back?
I don’t know anything about this ‘law’ except that it is bad. I am not going to go online (or in person) sign up for anything whilst providing every piece of information this administration or the officials that run this program says they need.
I’m going to ‘divest’ myself and transfer the wealth to other people and I will become a pauper with nothing to take. Hopefully, I’ll qualify for Medicaid, SNAP, EITC, and maybe Section 8. I’m looking forward to my ObamaPhone, too.
Except, of course, the fictional little girl with cancer that Harry Reid hates.....
exactly. there are going to be many creative ways to individually resist this anti-law.
those who are already throwing in the towel simply don’t want that inconvenience, the’re your classic fair-weather patriot. their reluctance to resist will be the greatest boon to obamacare.
I was pondering something similar. Donate my house to the religious organization I am affiliated with. They will be happy to let me live in it for the rest of my life.
Betsy must be lurking at FR. I raised this topic a couple of days ago.
The law specifically forbids that except to take it from your refund only if you are due one. If you are not due one then they are out of luck
Just dont pay hat $70 per year and there is nothing they can do.
I guess Rush doesnt want you to know this. He must want us to sign up as do the others trying to scare us.
My wife LOL'ed when I did my impression of a low information voter: "What do you mean CO-PAY? Obama said we wuz gonna get FREE healthcare!"
I look at it this way. The longer the people who really fund this country’s largess through their dutiful obedience to traditional responsibilities, the more and more freedom we lose to this tyrant. I refuse to let this tyrant take it all in the next three years he is in power.
So, if I came into a windfall before the end of the year(like won a gazillion dollar Powerball jackpot)and I set up my finances in such a way that I lived entirely on the winnings in 2014 without earning any income from investments, would I qualify for a subsidy?
First thing I’d do is look into is an irrevocable trust not controlled by myself. I’d then plead poverty and claim anything I could get my hands on that they would give me.
Wouldn't it be amazing if the irony of this whole mess is that even less people end up having health insurance?
It is easy to recognize the obvious PONZI SCHEME called Obamacare.
Obamacare has nothing to do with health, care, or medicine.
Obamacare has EVERYTHING to do with insurance.
Obamacare is a Federal Insurance Monopoly.
Obamacare is in violation of US Anti-Trust Laws.
Obamacare is a Federal Insurance Premium Collection Agency, aka FIPCA for Obamacare.
We CONSERVATIVES know that there will be other future Federal Insurance Ponzi Schemes, right down to the Insurance Premium collected for the inhaling of the EPA ruled toxic gas CO2.
Then FIPCA will be there to collect that CO2 Insurance premium from all citizens.
But I digress, so let us focus on the present.
If Boehner Caves In to the Court of Public Opinion, which is run by the Low Information Liberal Mainstream Media, and Obamacare is funded, Obama can then raise every year or quarter his Obamacare insurance premiums as high as he wants to, and the sorry US Congress cant do anything about it.
Congress will thus be bypassed, and will no longer be needed in the future to fund the vote buying schemes of the social engineering POTUS.
Could Boehner be stupid enough to come up with his own Boehnercare Ponzi Scheme?
I believe that premiums are paid to the insurance company, no pay - no insurance (after a waiting period).
Mrs. Catnipman, who is self-employed and has no health insurance, has already decided just to wait until she gets sick to buy insurance. She’s not eligible for subsidies because my former employer offers me health insurance (that I pay for) but not my family members. Therefore she is ineligible for subsidies unless we divorce.
Without subsidies, the costs are unbelievably ridiculous and benefits minimal. Even with a divorce and subsidies, it’s still not worth buying. It’ll be much more cost-effective to be fined and refuse to pay the fine and buy insurance when it’s actually needed.
I bet it doesn’t even have to be catastrophic. What if its just an ER visit costing lets say between 2-5 thousand dollars but even this relatively small amount could be a tipping point for those who are living paycheck to paycheck with a high deductible policy.
