Senate Democrats block reopening of NIH, national parks (Reid disparages Cruz on Senate floor)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday blocked a House bill providing funding to reopen national parks amid the government shutdown, saying he would not allow the GOP to pick and choose from among favored programs and insisting the only way out is to pass all spending at the same time.

Republicans tried to get an agreement in the Senate to restore the parks money along with funding for the National Institutes of Health, the military reserves and National Guard, and veterans affairs, but Democrats objected to each of those agreements in turn.

[snip]

The debate on the Senate floor turned poisonous for a few minutes when Mr. Reid verbally savaged Sen. Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican who wasn’t on the chamber floor but who Mr. Reid said was pulling the strings on the GOP strategy and encouraging the GOP-dominated House’s hardline stance.

“Senator Cruz is now joint Speaker. He lectures the House,” Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, said.

Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican, firing a warning shot back at Mr. Reid by reading a passage from Senate rules that forbids disparaging the motives of fellow senators.

Harry Reid was an undertaker? I heard he had sex with cadavers. Young male ones only. I have no proof, but the seriousness of the allegations is sufficient. He should step down.

Quite frankly I’m shocked Cornyn stood up for Cruz. I guess all our phone calls during the cloture vote has him scared of being primaried (good). Go Gohmert for Cornyn’s seat!

I guess "Bush's fault!" has been laid to rest and now it's "Cruz's fault!" (???)

You just keep on picking at Ted, Slimy Harry. The more you do, the more you up his standing.

The republicans should demand apologies from the democrats and the president and admission they are wrong and won’t get personal again. If they don’t apologize, don’t show up until they do. Tell the world that nobody will sit down and negotiate with someone who is calling them vile names.

We need to point out that it’s the liberals who revert to calling names when they’re wrong. And the only way anything is going to get out is the republicans have to start marching in lock step.

I’d also order republicans like Peter King to shut up or go join the other party.

Cruz is movng the ball forward by undermining public confidence in the government, irrespective of Party.

Dingy Harry is too dumb to realize that, and that he’s playing his role exactly the way Cruz wants him to.

My daughter goes to SMU. This week is 'Parents Week'. Parents fly in from all over the world, especially this year because of the Bush Presidential Library. My daughter has a friend whose parents flew in from Seattle Washington to see their son and to go to the library. It was closed. The SMU university offered to pay the employees to keep it open because of parents week being very important to the parents of the students. Obama refused to allow the university to pay their own money to keep the library open.

This bastard wants this shutdown. The students and parents are pissed off at obama for refusing to allow to open the library without incurring any Federal expenses.

Yes. RNC called my house again last night. Told them not ONE PENNY and to pass on that they need to do two things:

Tell Reince Priebus to DUMP Karl Rove
Tell Peter King to shut up or join the other party

Glad you brought that up.

Why would the casinos and cities that support Reid ever stop doing so? He’s been a reliable bag man for decades, since he was Chairman for the Nevada Gaming Commission.

In response to Reids comment about not funding one cancer kid, Today Rush said “this is why we ought not to trust the government with this kind of power” (paraphrased)

and he’s right. This little slip of Reids is just a sneak peak at how our health is going to be used as a pawn to achieve political purposes.

Are you sure about that? If they're from Washington state, they are very likely blaming the Republicans and especially us.

You are correct that Washington state is deeply liberal (and deceived). There is an enclave of extremely conservative people on Puget Sound called Gig Harbor. These people, though in the minority, are as solidly conservative as here in Texas.

It is past time to start boycotting Las Vegas and Reno, until those controlling those cities and casinos get rid of Reid.

I wouldn't go there on a bet.

There are enclaves of good people, even in the vipers’ dens. My understanding is that the inland part of WA, near ID has a lot of good folks living there.
