Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday blocked a House bill providing funding to reopen national parks amid the government shutdown, saying he would not allow the GOP to pick and choose from among favored programs and insisting the only way out is to pass all spending at the same time.
Republicans tried to get an agreement in the Senate to restore the parks money along with funding for the National Institutes of Health, the military reserves and National Guard, and veterans affairs, but Democrats objected to each of those agreements in turn.

The debate on the Senate floor turned poisonous for a few minutes when Mr. Reid verbally savaged Sen. Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican who wasnt on the chamber floor but who Mr. Reid said was pulling the strings on the GOP strategy and encouraging the GOP-dominated Houses hardline stance.
Senator Cruz is now joint Speaker. He lectures the House, Mr. Reid, Nevada Democrat, said.
Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Republican, firing a warning shot back at Mr. Reid by reading a passage from Senate rules that forbids disparaging the motives of fellow senators.

In talking to this young man, I questioned his conservative credentials, taking care not to alert him that he was taking a test. He was rock solid as a freeper. He says hi dad is extremely conservative. He is in business as a real estate developer and considers hard work an essential.
Over twenty million Americans lost their jobs last year (2012)... and Washington wants us to freak over their drama queen antics?
We have family in and around Reno, or Nevada at large, and they’re pretty conservative! I know most of them, if not all, didn’t vote for Obama or Reid. Goodness, even my gay cousin won’t vote for either of them! He’s socially liberal, but is conservative in other ways;(financially) he even likes and voted for Gov. Sandoval!
“Why would the casinos and cities that support Reid ever stop doing so? “
If Obozocare goes through and stays, no one in the middle income groups will have money left over to go to Vegas or Reno.
Plenty of foreigners still go there, especially since the dollar is losing value and foreign money has a lot more buying power than before.
There are larger things at stake. Reid knows where the Vegas bodies are buried.
Oh and even a few of the Democrats in the family don’t like him/Obama! One other cousin who’s a Dem. is fairly conservative. He and most of his family like to go out hunting and fishing and stuff like that. He liked Pres. Bush, and had lots of praise for him when he wanted to open the ANWR in Alaska many years back for drilling (He was an electrician with a Nevada power company)! I don’t know if he’s still a Dem., he might’ve converted to GOP, but I don’t know. I know his new daughter-in-law is Gop. But that’s merely a sampling of the whole family over there. Overall, most are Repub., but there are a few Dem.s are mixed in.
In Utah, most of the known Dem.s in the family were/are moderates or conservative. One of the cousins in particular, is pretty conservative and is a veteran. I don’t know if he’s Repub. or not, but His Facebook entries read like many of the strongest conservatives here on “Free Republic”! (I wonder if he could be one? I’ll have to ask him sometime!) Some others are pretty conservative mostly.
Our little old Grandma (now deceased) was a conservative Dem., but she would never recognize her party now! She’d be pretty digusted with her old party the way it is now! My Step-dad was from S. Carolina, and was once a Dem. He’s disgusted with the party in general; but he still likes a few of the local Dem.s. But he’ll vote for them only if they are conservative!
Otherwise, he votes Republican mostly now. He does get sore at a few of the national ones, and grumbles about them when they act weak and give in too much to Pres. Obama and the Dem.s! He even grumbled about some of them not backing Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul, and some Repub.s giving them a bad time!
Here’s what the senate Dems get to block funding for today:
“(a) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 75) making continuing appropriations for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(b) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 76) making continuing appropriations for the National Nuclear Security Administration for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(c) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 77) making continuing appropriations for the Food and Drug Administration for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(d) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 78) making continuing appropriations for national intelligence program operations for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(e) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 79) making continuing appropriations for certain components of the Department of Homeland Security for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(f) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 80) making continuing appropriations for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Education, and the Indian Health Service for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(g) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 82) making continuing appropriations for the National Weather Service for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(h) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 83) making continuing appropriations for the Impact Aid program of the Department of Education for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(i) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 84) making continuing appropriations for Head Start for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.
(j) The joint resolution (H.J. Res. 85) making continuing appropriations for the Federal Emergency Management Agency for fiscal year 2014, and for other purposes.”
Love the minibills!

Ouch, sorry for the double posts! I thought the post had not gone through, and hit it again! There were a few corrections on the original though; so maybe it wasn’t all wasted, I hope!
Ted Cruz upped his standing Harry,
up yours!
Thank you for the list!
