Today is the day they can first get their free CA drivers licenses! Why not have the border agents hand out maps to the first DMV office? Maybe lemonade too, and a tiny flag that has Mexico on one side and old “glory” on the other.
My son is a BP Agent in AZ. He has not heard of that stand-down “order.”
They are in the field chasing illegal aliens and apprehending—unabated.
They are working while not being paid and all leave is cancelled while the govt is “shut-down.”
Is such an order, regardless of source, lawful?
Can the president issue a blanket order such as this?

Recruitment effort. The government’s eVerify system, used to verify that potential employees have legal status to work in the United States has been shut down along with the WWII memorial. They are not paid. . .just like those federal non-essential bureaucrats, but those bureaucrats get to sit at home and wait for back-pay (never earning that back-pay).
Of course they are. Obama cares nothing about laws he can’t use to destroy the US, so he just ignores them.
They are essential but they are not paid. . .they have to report to work because they are “excepted” but that is it.
Those non-essential types get to stay home and wait for back-pay for work they didn’t do, whereas the BP Agents have to work for their back-pay.

Oh, and they received no such order to stand down and they remain active and busy.
They are not “unmanning the border.”
The BP Agents are “excepted” and therefore still at full strength and busy on the border, chasing illegal aliens and drug smugglers. (They just aren’t getting paid. . .now).
