Skip to comments.US shutdown: would a Queen help?

So, the US needs a Queen. At least according to the Washington Post, whose foreign affairs blogger Max Fisher offered up this little history lesson comparing the US government shut down to Australias 1975 constitutional crisis. Take us back, Britain, and absolve us from this intransigence as John Kerr did in Canberra!
The piece straddled the common divide between look at those wacky Aussies and hey, maybe these people have a point, which seems to characterise the US attitude toward our policies on health and guns. In a sense, weve never really recovered from that Simpsons portrayal of the land down under as a penal colony with no coffee.
But exasperated by the first shut down in 17 years, perhaps its no wonder some Americans think they need a higher power (a non-celestial one, at least) to whip Congress into line. Indeed, in a country with such extreme reverence for faith, it would seem only natural to put constitutional power in the hands of an unaccountable, unethical and backward institution like the monarchy.
From where we sit, Barack Obama is pretty much a demi-God as it is: controlling the worlds most powerful military, bestowing healthcare upon a people who dont appreciate it and slowly navigating the ship away from economic calamity. Hes tall and handsome, can sing, dance, act, play basketball and swat flies, and gets around in a 747. Hes the perfect man. But he cant pass his own budget, and thats left him looking significantly weaker than our imaginations would care to admit.....

hahahahaha! Just wait until that son of hers steps up to the plate. They’ll shut up then, they will be too busy crying.
No, the United States does not need a Queen. We do not need intercession, reform, or redesign. What is being worked out is, in fact, a testament to the strength of the system, which has been filled by the most disgracefully unworthy occupants quite possibly in its entire history and still has not failed. What the United States needs is what it is about to undergo: a blast-furnace rage against the smirking, arrogant incompetence of statist Leftism that has crawled out from under its protective rock to imagine that it owns the world.
We see before us the spectacle of a racist elitist with a mile-long posse who hasn't a clue about the country for which he flatters himself that he "leads". We see an impasse in Congress, at last, that will not allow this willful brat his every whim, and the shrieking rage of his sycophants who cannot imagine ever being denied their passion of the moment. We see the system locked. We see the system working.
Spare us, please, such idiocies. We don't need a Mommy.
You can add Dingy, Juan McLoser, Linda Grahamnesty, Nutters Nanners, and many others to that list.
With these three queens and two deuces ... we've got too much of a full house already!
Koziol woke up this morning and said, “I’m going to do my best each and every day to contribute the most I can to an unfair Polish stereotype.” If I were Polish, I’d kick his dumb a** for it.
I fear he understands the budget as well as he plays basketball. (Wasn't he 31 misses for 32 attempts at a free throw recently???)
We’ve already got two queens. One is a weird looking skinny runt who looks as if he came from another planet. The other is a whopping wide and tall barge.
They haven’t been doing too well for us, so I think we can drop the queen idea.
I guess you didn't read the whole piece as didn't most of the posters on this thread. If you had you would have read this: " But at least (and this is some saving grace) when the Americans find themselves at such an impasse, salvation ultimately lies within their own civil institutions, and not an unelected family in London."
Seems he's more interested in arguing against a Queen in the UK not promoting one here.
The U.S. already has a “queen” or someone that THINKS she’s a queen. Odumbo on the other hand is her “court jester”. Unfortunately, we’re all stuck with both of them for a few more years unless........??????
