National Park Service rangers are being ordered to “make life difficult” during the government shutdown, according to the Washington Times.
After the shutdown began, park police have been barring tourists from a number of popular attractions nationwide, including the WWII memorial. Even privately-owned landmarks, such as Mount Vernon, are being told by the National Park Service to close their doors.
The Times reported: The Park Service appears to be closing streets on mere whim and caprice. The rangers even closed the parking lot at Mount Vernon, where the plantation home of George Washington is a favorite tourist destination. That was after they barred the new World War II Memorial on the Mall to veterans of World War II. But the government does not own Mount Vernon; it is privately owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association. The ladies bought it years ago to preserve it as a national memorial. The feds closed access to the parking lots this week, even though the lots are jointly owned with the Mount Vernon ladies. The rangers are from the government, and they’re only here to help.

by default, if they are blocking streets, enterances, aren’t they working and thus not furloghed?
At work this week, I have had need to go to the NRCS website and the FEMA website.
I went to these websites to look up information that we the people paid for.
The websites - closed down. A ‘banner ad’ at the top states that the shutdown has closed the web-site.
They actually had to spend money, to have somebody come in at 11:30 on Sunday night, to put up the banner ad. Amazing.
That’s a good one. I wish a congressman would point out the similarities to what Hussein is doing, to the Reichstag fire.

This is right up there with having the IRS target Tea Partiers. More abusive government. And they wonder why we don’t want them running our health care.
