Priests threatened with arrest if they minister to military during shutdown
The Daily Caller ^ | October 4, 2013 | Alex Pappas

Posted on 10/04/2013 1:59:05 PM PDT by don-o

In a stunning development, some military priests are facing arrest if they celebrate mass or practice their faith on military bases during the federal government shutdown.

“With the government shutdown, many [government service] and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer,” wrote John Schlageter, the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA, in an op-ed this week. “During the shutdown, it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so.”

Exactly:

How many are in the military or are ex-military?

What percentage of them are religious?

The answer to those questions will tell you how many voters he just lost, plus their families.

“With the government shutdown, many [government service] and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer,”

What about priests who have no current government association? If there's nothing stopping them from coming on base as invited visitors to the Catholic servicemen, then during the shutdown they can volunteer to say mass, and the government-contracted priests can cover the volunteers' parishes.

Or just park outside the gates of the base, and conduct mass from the bed of a pickup truck.

Oh my. I wonder if the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines have their own little prayer meetings on base if they will be thrown in the brig or punished in some other way. Define priest, minister, etc.

Because Islam hates the infidel, and America is the biggest “infidel” of all. So, hating America, they make a perfect strategic partner. They figure they’ll deal with them later when all religion is banned.

I think Obama has decided this is the time and place where he is going to break the backbone of resistance to his tyranny.

His outrageous over-reachng is intentional.

He is doing his best to push Amerians to the limit - just daring someone, anyone, to openly rebel so he can use his federal thugs to come down on us like a ton of bricks.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see another domestic False Flag operation leading to a declaration of martial law by Obama.

He is determined to destroy ASmerica and anyone who stands in his way.

Yes, any place, any time, Mass can be held. I remember [the late] Coach Ray Meyer, of the DePaul Blue Demons, telling my husband and me that if he'd missed Mass during the day due to his demanding schedule, the team chaplain would have Mass [for Ray and any of the teammates that wished to attend], right there in the airport while waiting for a flight.

They dont reference the anti-deficiency act, but that’s what they’re using.

If priests were wholly volunteer, and there was no remuneration involved, the anti-deficiency act couldn’t be invoked, because no government obligation would be created.

This makes a lot of sense:

Anyone who cares about this a whole lot was probably not going to vote for GayMuzzie anyway, and then “the little g” naturally sees itself as in competition with, “The Big G” anyway.

Liberalism is a type of secular fundamentalism. It is a religion because it sees that making people truly happy (a state of mind) is a real function of government.

While most drug culture fanatics identify with liberalism in fact liberal politicians are MUCH less likely to legalize drugs than conservatives, as even short-term and false chemical happiness would encroach —”happiness springs from GOVERNMENT”.

It’s ridiculous.

The actual statement from John Schlageter, the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, says (my bolds):
There is a chronic shortage of active duty Catholic chaplains. While roughly 25% of the military is Catholic, Catholic priests make up only about 8% of the chaplain corps. That means approximately 275,000 men and women in uniform, and their families, are served by only 234 active-duty priests. The temporary solution to this shortage is to provide GS and contract priests. These men are employed by the government to ensure that a priest is available when an active duty Catholic Chaplain is not present. With the government shutdown, GS and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer. During the shutdown, it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so.

As an example, if a Catholic family has a Baptism scheduled at the base chapel this weekend, unless they can locate a priest who is not a GS or contract priest, they should consider it cancelled....

Priests who are NOT currently government employees or contractors CAN volunteer, according to my interpretation of the above.

My brother was in the Marine Corp and although he wasn’t exactly a practicing Catholic, he said he went to Mass every weekend to “clear his head” and because that’s what my mother would have wanted. And something must have sunk in because he’s a middle aged believer now!

But even when my brother was borderline atheist, he would NOT have been happy that a Priest couldn’t hold Mass. Even if he wasn’t going to attend the Mass, he would think of this as a total government over step and anti religious freedom.
