PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Officials say 366 people signed up for health insurance plans through the new marketplace Rhode Island has launched to carry out President Obama's Affordable Care Act on its first two days of operation.

On the first two days of operation its Connecticut counterpart Access Health CT, said 373 applied Tuesday and Wednesday.

There was a marked slowdown in the number of people signing up for plans on HealthSource RI's second day in operation, with 252 enrolling on Tuesday and another 114 enrolling on Wednesday.

HealthSource RI also said 3,452 people called the agency's contact center in its first two days, 82 people paid it walk-in visits and 19,707 unique visitors went to the HealthSourceRI.com website. In addition, 2,089 people have created accounts on the website to buy coverage at some point.

Also remember the language (parsing) used in these press releases. Does sign up mean “purchased” or signed into system

Also these premiums require monthly payments. How many so you think will sign up (while being threatened or bamboozled by SEIU or ACORN) and then realize to actually go to the doctor it costs them (with deductibles). They will then just stop paying the monthly nugget.

This thing is a nightmare for Dems in 2014.

I think the answer is in the last sentence of the excerpt:

In addition, 2,089 people have created accounts on the website to buy coverage at some point.

However, I think it's a leap of faith to assume those people will buy coverage at some point. I suspect a lot of them were just "window shopping".

Compared to California, that’s an absolute flood of applicants.

I know RI is a small state but I think there more than 10,000 people there. Just what percentage of those eligible “signed-up” (whatever that means)?

2089 created accounts to buy insurance at some point in the future. This means “If you don’t have the money right now, you can actually pay later.” This is being offered so they can say they signed people up. I wonder if this is a new feature.

These small numbers caused the web site to fail?
