Maryland’s health insurance Web site stumbles badly in first days (less than 100 enrolled)
Washington Post ^ | 4 Oct 2013 | By Lena H. Sun

Barely 24 hours after President Obama signed his landmark health law, Gov. Martin O’Malley promised that Maryland would “lead the nation” in putting it in place.

In the three years since, Maryland has been at the forefront of implementing the Affordable Care Act. It established six policy work groups. It trained more than 5,000 people to help consumers enroll in new health-coverage options. When its online insurance exchange passed a critical test in the summer — one of the first in the country to do so — a top official gave an emotional speech thanking workers. If any state was going to be ready for Oct. 1, when millions of uninsured Americans would be able to start buying coverage under the health law, it would be Maryland.

But when Tuesday arrived, Maryland’s Web site stumbled badly. People couldn’t log on, forcing state officials to delay the opening of the exchange for four hours. Even after it opened, many frustrated users were unable to create accounts, the first step in buying coverage.

The writer better not venture into MD anytime soon - O'Malley doesn't take well to criticism.

So we have Rhode Island signing up 366 and Louisiana laying a goose egg. I wonder what the overall total is? Minus of course Chad Henderson

That damn state.

When my wife and I were traveling, looking for a home in KY, we still owned our home in Florida and had our mail forwarded to my brother in Germantown. He boxed it and UPS’d it to us weekly. 2 years after we bought a home in KY, the great state of MD sent me a letter demanding income tax for that year or proof that I didn’t owe them.

Apparently, driving through there is almost enough to get you declared a resident and income tax demanded. I saved all the paperwork, figure they will come back again someday and try again.

Yeah, he is probably kicking himself on that one.

It made sense, it was "fair" in that little bammy had decreed the mandate delayed for a year for business, he could have looked like he was "working with the other side" and would have avoided the horrible optics of closing National Parks (even though he thought everyone would blame the republicans) and he would be partying in Asia right now on the taxpayers dime.

Oh well!

I don’t know how it could be anything but crap. The mandates force people to buy insurance that covers things they may never use and don’t want. The government has managed to model the “improved” health care system after the cable television model. And nobody is pleased to pay cable companies for 900 channels they will never watch just so they can receive the 20 or so they do watch.

We’re in Virginia, and lately I see bunches of Maryland plates, all around our neighborhood ...these jerks are now leaving the state, no doubt getting taxed to death ...and what you wanna bet they’re going to infiltrate Virginia now and vote like they always have.

Please, Marylanders ...STAY in the h*llhole you have created ...please.

At least the Obama campaign contributors who created the websites got paid. Crony corruption works well for the cronies.

"Please, Marylanders ...STAY in the h*llhole you have created ...please."

Chill out, boot.

There are hundreds of thousands of conservative Marylanders that had nothing to do with, indeed fought against, the stupid policies that were implemented by the leeches in Baltimore City and Montgomery and Prince Georges counties. We were simply overwhelmed by their numbers.

I'm leaving this dump ASAP and would hope to receive a sympathetic reception from fellow conservatives in whatever REAL free state I choose to move to.

Think before you post, bro.
