Pent-Up Demand for Health Insurance
New York Times ^ | October 4, 2013 | The Editorial Board

There were plenty of computer glitches when millions of Americans went online to check out their options for affordable insurance policies. It was frustrating, but it was also an indication of overwhelming interest that exceeded all predictions.

Neither federal nor state officials were willing to say how many people actually enrolled in a health plan the first week, but the numbers are surely low. People need time to ponder their choices.

The administration’s goal is to enroll some seven million uninsured Americans in health plans on the exchanges in 2014. They hope that 2.8 million will be young people between the ages of 18 and 34, whose participation is needed to help subsidize coverage for older and sicker people.

Was it millions of potential enrollees or the same ones trying over and over and over to get in? And browsing the site don’t mean they’re buying - unless they find out it’s FREE. Most haven’t been able to get that far into the system to find out. Maybe the back end has not even been developed and all they have is a broken GUI.

Hmmmm…seems Obamacare has set up additional ‘BARRYcades’ against American jobs by outsourcing Obamacare IT work.

Canadian firm hired to build troubled Obamacare exchanges
A Canadian tech firm that has provided service to that country's single-payer health care system is behind the glitch-ridden United States national health care exchange site healthcare.gov.

CGI Federal is a subsidiary of Montreal-based CGI Group. With offices in Fairfax, Va., the subsidiary has been a darling of the Obama administration, which since 2009 has bestowed it with $1.4 billion in federal contracts, according to USAspending.gov.

The "CGI" in the parent company's name stands for "Conseillers en Gestion et Informatique" in French, which roughly translates to "Information Systems and Management Consultants." However, the firm offers another translation: "Consultants to Government and Industry."

The company is deeply embedded in Canada’s single-payer system. CGI has provided IT services to the Canadian Ministries of Health in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Saskatchewan, as well as to the national health provider, Health Canada, according to CGI's Canadian website.

Sharon Hopper - @Mary Schmit: I am over 60 and according to the calculator my premiums almost triples and my out of pocket is more than triple what I pay now. I get NO subsidy.

Jim Mace - WOW, is every single person posting on here a republican mole posting LIES??? What a bunch of idiots.

There are number of Obot trolls attempting to dispense koolaid, but folks are not drinking it!

There is nothing optional in buy it or pay a fine. Then lets see how affordable they regard it down the line.

I thought the goal was 30 million uninsured. How did we get down to 7 million?

So it's admitted up front that this is just one big Ponzi scheme!

99% of the low information crowd signing up for Obamacare really believe it’s free. Imagine their surprise when they find out they have to pay for it.

I will be looking into it to see if it offers me a cheaper rate and better coverage. If it does, I will take it. Politics aside, the health and welfare of my family come first.

I have a feeling it will turn out to be worthless but to not investigate it, considering my current costs and coverage through work, would be imbecilic.

Hmmmm...I seem to recall hearing Obama's incessant campaigning, that the goal was 3 or 4 times the NYT above quoted figure of 7 Million. What happened? Why the correction/revision/change/subterfuge/misdirection/modification/reediting/reconsideration/redaction/adjustment/difference/contraction/reversal?????????? ;)

I suspect a lot of people will do what you are considering...it is called competition. Unfortunately, the playing field may not be equal.

I checked out the info on the Arizona ACA site and found out that there are 106 different plans for Pinal County alone! The plans include PPOs, HMOs, and even a few catastrophic ones by Aetna, Cigna, Health Net, BCBS, University of Arizona, and Meritus (which was super expensive). So much for health insurance reform.

“The administration’s goal is to enroll some seven million uninsured Americans in health plans on the exchanges in 2014.”

But, but we were told there are 48 million uninsured people here in Acirema. So, we are going to spend trillions of dollars we don’t have to insure 14% of the uninsured. Wow, that’s the Yankee government for you.

Cost isn't your only consideration. You need to consider where you will receive treatment. Also, when the system goes single payer run by the Feds, what happens during the next fight over the budget. Who gets furloughed then?
