My mom waited about 24 hours, but hers was broken. She was 92. She recovered and is fine now at 96. But this is the kind of thing they might only offer palliative care for as usually people that age die shortly after replacement. She’s happy as can be. I’d hate to have lost here then.

Having worked for decades in Emergency Medicine (administration,not "professional") I understand what happens when an older person fractures a hip...no,they certainly don't wait days *except* when they're deemed to be a poor surgical risk.When we sent an elderly patient to the Orthopedic floor after a workup the nurses would often say (out of earshot of the patient and family of course) "she won't leave here alive".That's often the case because keeping an elderly person bedridden for even a few days opens them up to pneumonia,pulmonary emboli and other life threatening events.Your mother was one of the lucky ones.
Also,think back to that "open forum" a few years ago when Osama Obama suggested to a woman in the audience that her 95 year old mother probably should have gotten "a pain pill" rather then the cardiac pacemaker that her doctor prescribed.
