National Day for Dignity and Respect pushes for immigration reform through portraits in New Haven NEW HAVEN >> When his daughter was just eight months old, Alejandro Gonzalez made the decision to leave Mexico.
Gonzalez, who now lives in Connecticut, said he has not been able to go back since.
That was in February 2002.
When I talk to her on the computer or the phone, it is like a piece of my heart is gone, Gonzalez said.
Recently, Gonzalez said he has lost two cousins to cancer and lost a grandfather, but was unable to say goodbye to any of them.
This is the struggle that many people face, Gonzalez said. We cannot travel; we cannot go home to our family when we need to.
Gonzalez was one of many immigrants and activists cheering for immigration reform at the Connecticut celebration of the National Day for Dignity and Respect, organized by Service Employees International Union, at Junta for Progressive Action in New Haven Saturday.
Ana Marie Rivera, legal/policy analyst for Junta and coordinator for Connecticut Immigrant Rights Alliance (part of the 32BJ group of SEIU), said Saturdays celebration was one of more than 150 such celebrations nationwide. Immigration activists and immigrants came from across the state to gather in New Haven to rally and listen to testimonies of people whose loved ones are fighting deportation

"Thank you for opening my eyes to the human reality that these illegal immigrants, in addition to using identity theft and benefits fraud in order to stay in the USA, are tormented by the fact that they abandoned their families in Mexico. In the interests of family reunification, and in accord with the tenets of my religious faith, I would sincerely open up my own thin wallet and chip in so he can get a bus ticket back to Lindo Michoacan."
Remember and vote with a vengeance. Anybody who does not recognize the national sovereignty of the people of the United States is a traitor. You cannot hide behind mom, apple pie and the flag and fail to protect our nation for the future of our children.
Right? My first thought....how bout respecting our laws.

How bout respecting the ranchers down on the border, the taxpayers of America.
For illegal aliens to get here and stay, more times than not they must commit more crimes such as fraud, forgery, perjury.
Mexicans are not bad people. This is what makes up our Tex-mex culture down here in Texas. They are generally very conservative, hard working.
With that said, we cannot take on millions of foreign citizens at a time when we are in financial trouble. America the lifeboat is taking on water and in jeopardy of capsizing. Then everyone will drown.
