Lake Mead property owners forced out until shutdown ends
KNTV ^ | 10/5/13 | Jacqui Heinrich

The government shutdown is being felt close to home for some locals. They say they're being forced out of private homes on Lake Mead because they sit on federal land.

Joyce Spencer is 77-years-old and her husband Ralph is 80. They've been spending most of their time in the family ice cream store since going home isn't an option.

The Spencers never expected to be forced out of their Lake Mead home, which they've owned since the 70s, but on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.

"I had to go to town today and buy Ralph undershirts and jeans because I forgot his pants," Joyce Spencer told Action News.

The Stewart's Point home sits on federal land, so even though the Spencers own their cabin outright, they're not allowed in until the government reopens.

Park officials said property owners can visit only to retrieve belongings; they sent Action News a statement which reads in part, "Unfortunately overnight stays are not permitted until a budget is passed and the park can reopen." Joyce Spencer said she's alright in the meantime, staying with nearby family, but the move was a lot to handle as a senior citizen.

"I had to be sure and get his walker and his scooter that he has to go in," Spencer said. "We're not hurt in any way except it might cost me if I have to go buy more pants."

The Lake Mead properties are considered vacation homes; one of the lease requirements to own a plot is people must have an alternative residence.

Regardless, the Spencers said it's their property and they should be allowed in, shutdown or not.

“on Thursday, a park ranger said they had 24 hours to get out.”

Tell them no through the door. Tell them there are several hidden cameras recording them and uploading. Force them into something they call “bad optics”.

Not sure why people are so meek but my answer would be “Make me.”

the level of idiocy of this administration just keeps growing. It almost like bh0 has a death wish for any dimocrats coming after him. He is showing the power of the government gone berserk, unfortunately the msm is hiding it and supporting him. I can only hope that this will backfire.

A question just occurred to me. Since the reservations are technically federal land when are they going to force out the Indians?

Here is a link to a Hot Air article that gives mention that the closings may be of the NPS’s own doing:

The state should sieze the Federal Managed Land, via state eminent domain, kick all Fed employees to the curb(expel Fed from the state)and declare land rightfully returned to state ownerhip.

Then tell the Feds to POUND SAND

The pushback has to begin at the spiritual level. Grasp the God of Justice and Righteousness again. Then proceed. This is going to entail some satanic resistance. We’ve goofed off way too long for it to be easy. But the sooner it begins the sooner it will see significant victory. (It will never make this mortal coil perfect, though.)

This is just a little too much to believe. People affected had better be contacting anyone and everyone from Congress-critters to all the "news" media. Get the media to stop looking so hard for someone who has actually signed up for ZeroCare and report some real news.

The White House sits on federal property. No one should be allowed back in until Zero and his Dem cronies get with it and sign a bill funding the government.

When this is all over I will be greatly disappointed if Congress doesn’t severely punish NPS. The senior staff must be forced out for openers.

Thankfully, our health care isn’t yet anchored to the govt.

Where's Harry Reid on this?

He's on the 17th green at Washington National Golf Course.

Then why are Obama and Michelle allowed to return “home” to the White House? Shouldn’t they also be kicked out?

Clearly all Federal land ownership must promptly be transferred to the states, except for military bases.

When is Fedgov going to empty the urban Federal housing projects? Monday?

The Community Organizer in Chief is leading a strike, and no one is forcing him back to the bargaining table. Yes...another “empty chair” epic fail.
