The government is not shut down. Something like half of all gov employees are still on the job. Saturday, SECDEF Hagel announced may DoD civilians will go back to work (active duty military have been working all along).

So what ya gonna do if this was a planned vacation? If they're like me when I was employed, I was required to submit my tentative vacation days to my employer usually during the first couple weeks of January. If I didn't then somebody else was likely to get my preferred days........
