Mutiny: Retired Navy captain plans blockade to protest closure of Florida waters
Examiner ^ | 7 October 2013

“As you are well aware,” wrote Retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Geoff Ross -- in a message posted by Fred Brownbill on Save America Foundation Sunday -- the federal government “has illegally and unconstitutionally closed state fishing and navigational waters within the 12 mile boundary of state waters.”

When logging onto the U.S. Department of Interior website, visitors are greeted with this message, posted Oct. 1 by the National Park Service:

Because of the federal government shutdown, all national parks are closed and National Park Service webpages are not operating. For more information, go to www.doi.gov.

...

I want 1000 to 2000 charter boats filling the water way that was closed and confiscated illegally by President Obama under his White House order. DEFY IT ! Its illegal.

“I’m going to fill my waterway with boats,” Ross told Examiner Monday. “Charter boats, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, I don’t care.”

Just fill it. We’re going to fill it.

If he’s retired then it’s not mutiny. Whose command does he fall under? Mutiny occurs only against legally constituted military command.

Let’s hope this ol’ Navy chief gets it done the way chiefs always get it done.

Must be your Rebel blood! :^)

But then again, there’s some old fashion Yankee rebellion brewing too...

Ross is/was not a captain and this is not mutiny. Accurate reporting would sure be a refreshing change.....

You are exactly right. That is why we have Mad Max on the streets of New York, Miami and Los Angeles. It all stems from the top.

I took the fact that they didn’t capitalize Captain to mean he’s a charter boat captain—which he apparently is—and a retired Sr. Chief.

There is an error in the story, however (besides the fact it’s not really mutiny) and that is that Hernando County is not in South Florida.

I posted the story on a charter boat fishing FB page in Miami. Hopefully they will spread the word.

Yes, if he has a coast guard license, commonly called
a “six pack”, he is entitled to be called captain and
to operate vessels up to a certain tonnage.

After the egyptian protesters got rid of morsi, i think obummer would be careful about confronting large groups.
we do need to use MASS disobedience to win this thing because individual efforts will be knocked off quickly.

Wouldn’t that be Coast Guard Baileywick? Does the NPS even have a boat? And when was the last time the NPS intercepted a swimmer from Cuba? Sounds like a Napoleonic Fubar to me with some NPS genius starting to make up his own Area of Operation. Do they have floating fences? I can see the offending blowhard tied firmly to the bowsprit of a patrol boat so’s he can see first hand what the problem is not.

As usual the media doesn’t know the difference between a Senior Chief Petty Officer and a Four Stripe Captain,

Captain is not a Rank it is a command that any rank can hold if required.

What to do? This is a rare opportunity to really have an effect.

Call your State Reps and call Gov. Scott's office.

There is a meeting scheduled with Gov. Scott Wed.

Tell them that in 1980 the State Board of Trustees Dedicated the land areas of Volusia and Brevard Counties to the Fedgov to create the Canaveral National Seashore Park which was within their authority to do so. The problem is that they ALSO dedicated a large area of navigable waters also. This came to light in 2001 when the Park started requiring fishing guides to pay fees and purchase permits that amounted to several hundred's of dollars. These water areas deeded over to the FedGov are sovereign waters of the State and are held in Trust for the people and can not be wholly alienated from them. The Board of Trustees erred when they did this.

Make those calls and tell them to rescind the agreements and return ownership and control of our waters to the people of the State.

The State also made stipulations to the agreement. One was that the people will have the absolute right to fish on these waters except in time of “emergency” and then only after consultation with the State agencies. The Fed Gov is in breach of the Agreements on this point by closing these waters.
