GOP centrists won't force 'clean' CR vote
The Hill ^ | October 7, 2013 | Bob Cusack -

Posted on 10/07/2013 1:37:12 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.............. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said a clean continuing resolution doesn’t have the votes to pass the House. President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday challenged Boehner to prove it by scheduling a vote.

The Hill on Monday contacted the more than two dozen House Republicans who publicly favor, or who have said they would consider voting for, a clean bill. Not one said they would join forces with the Democrats. The Hill worked off a whip list that The Washington Post has compiled.

Republican Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Lou Barletta (Pa.), Frank LoBiondo (N.J.), Devin Nunes (Calif.), Mike Simpson (Idaho), Rob Wittman (Va.), Charlie Dent (Pa.), Peter King (N.Y.) and Tim Griffin (Ark.) clearly stated they would not sign the petition.

In an email, Griffin said, “Instead of negotiating in good faith, House Democrats are playing political games with a discharge petition. They are following the playbook of President Obama and Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid, who wanted a government shutdown for political purposes.”

Simpson spokeswoman Nikki Watts said, “The answer is 'absolutely not.' ”

Barletta spokesman Tim Murtaugh said, “The congressman would not support a discharge petition. It’s parliamentary gamesmanship which stands no chance of succeeding.”...........

I do not understand this sudden show of steely Republican spines?

They’re gonna sell us out at some point. They always do. Lucy never lets Charlie Brown kick the football, after all.

I really think GOP should use ‘Majority Rules’ argument here. The House has been passing bills with 240, 250+ votes to fund individual departments - why should they send a bill with only 218 votes?

Or they'll pull a Tony Romo in the final minutes.

MUST READ: DEBT CEILING A DEMOCRAT RUSE
The debt ceiling propaganda is a radical ruse by obozo and his minions to try to force the Pubbies into a cave in on obozocare and push America that much further into the Marxist hellhole obozo promised his ignorant supporters in 2008!

Raising the debt ceiling WITHOUT reigning in SPENDING and telling those “non-essential” bureaucrats to get REAL jobs (if they can find them) is a recipe for the further destruction of what remains of America.

If he takes us into default, it will be because HE made the decision to do so.

FACT: We are nowhere near that even with a complete budget stall. The US takes in nearly $250 BILLION in tax revenues each month. This is more than 10 times what is needed to service the interest on the debt ($220BILLION/year).

What this shutdown does, however, is force Obama into a position where he would have to prioritize the spending for what is left. It would NOT be the total chaos being pushed by the Dems and their lapdog media.

If you want your country back, ignore these phony scare tactics.

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW. Don’t bother with the obozombies. They wouldn’t recognize a fact if it bit them on the ass.

All but Barletta...who led the fight in Hazelton PA to rid the place of illegals. The Rove/Soros wing of the GOP does not like Barletta

It is not a CLEAN CR. Words matter! It is a polluted Obama-care CR. Clean would be without all the socialist impurities. What Reid and BO want is a defiled CR!

Of course govt does have a few OTHER expenses each month, like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Defense, yadda yadda, which when added up total FAR MORE than we take in....

The longer this goes on, the more the Dems are going to get tagged with the whole shutdown mess.

Keep strong—don’t give in, don’t yield.

And when you talk to lobs, ask them why the President is so invested in harming Americans, for a lousy healthcare bill that only Dems voted for, and which is already tanking the economy?

Now that ObamaCare is starting to get people's attention hit them with the costs of amnestying 30 million more deadbeats to be paid for. ObamaCare might be the club with which to kill the snake of amnesty.

Well, I’m pleased!

I think they realize that our Constitutional system and even the existence of the lower chamber is in the balance now.

There have been many parsings of Obama’s threat to invoke the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling by himself. What the 14th Amendment refers to, among other things, is a crisis that permits the removal of “disloyal” legislators. His attempt to establish the Tea Party (which doesn’t even exist as an entity!) as terrorists, anarchists, etc. and apply this to all Congressmen who oppose him is obviously part of this.

We’re at a very dangerous moment in our history, and I hope the GOPers realize that they’re standing in the breach right now.

Bingo!

I wouldn't be surprised if amnesty is the quid pro quo for the RINO resolve on Obamacare.

Amnesty will need to be fought on the same basis that Obamacare is being fought: one day at a time. It must begin with personal acts of courage, as Cruz demonstrated with Obamacare. Whatever behind the scenes deal Boehner is making on amnesty must be obliterated by true leadership. Boehner must once again be forced to say to his left wing "I have no choice".

I suspect it’s the 14th Amendment thing. They don’t want to become completely irrelevant.

A “Clean” bill? Jeez no propaganda there. An accurate description would be that the Reps refuse to pass the usual pork laden POS for democrats to continue buying votes unless Deathcare is delayed for a year.
