GOP centrists won't force 'clean' CR vote
The Hill ^ | October 7, 2013 | Bob Cusack -

Posted on 10/07/2013 1:37:12 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

.............. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said a clean continuing resolution doesn’t have the votes to pass the House. President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday challenged Boehner to prove it by scheduling a vote.

The Hill on Monday contacted the more than two dozen House Republicans who publicly favor, or who have said they would consider voting for, a clean bill. Not one said they would join forces with the Democrats. The Hill worked off a whip list that The Washington Post has compiled.

Republican Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla.), Lou Barletta (Pa.), Frank LoBiondo (N.J.), Devin Nunes (Calif.), Mike Simpson (Idaho), Rob Wittman (Va.), Charlie Dent (Pa.), Peter King (N.Y.) and Tim Griffin (Ark.) clearly stated they would not sign the petition.

In an email, Griffin said, “Instead of negotiating in good faith, House Democrats are playing political games with a discharge petition. They are following the playbook of President Obama and Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid, who wanted a government shutdown for political purposes.”

Simpson spokeswoman Nikki Watts said, “The answer is 'absolutely not.' ”

Barletta spokesman Tim Murtaugh said, “The congressman would not support a discharge petition. It’s parliamentary gamesmanship which stands no chance of succeeding.”...........

I do not understand this sudden show of steely Republican spines?

Internal polling showing that Americans in general (and those precious Independents in particular) are viewing Obama as the unreasonable one at present. Just taking the opportunity to try and drive his approval numbers even lower.

Having to get elected every two years has its advantages.

This is yet another dem mistake (they've made quite a few when challenged). They made the mistake of speaking prematurely for potential allies, thus forcing them to swear allegience to "their team".

now that Obamacare is starting to get people's attention...

Ted Cruz was real smart to get out front of the disatisfaction. The RINOs would've sat back and looked complicit if they'd waited for it to fail.

I just wish some Republican would find a better mouthpiece in order to pin this on the RATs. Aside from FR, Drudge, etc, who is hearing or reading about the atrocious abusive practices federal workers are using to inflict as much pain as possible out of this?

I did check ABC News, and one headline reads “Obama Resists Talks With Boehner ‘Under the Threat’ of Default” which wasn’t at least as biased as I’d expected. The content is still 90% BS and the quotes from Obama are all lies, as usual.

But I’m sure most low-information types are blaming Republicans for everything as usual, and there’s no one with a voice to tell them otherwise.

“Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said a clean continuing resolution doesn’t have the votes to pass the House.”

More importantly, there is NO REASON to pass a “clean” CR (crappy description). The simple fact is that the House has ALREADY PASSED a CR, constitutionally founded, and sent it to the Senate. The chief dirtbag in the Senate, Harry “the Feckless” Reid, has refused to bring it to the floor for a vote.

The Hill worked off a whip list that The Washington Post has compiled.

So the WaPo, the newspaper of the Democratic Party, is working to help Obama out of this mess. They're breaking and we need to take the opportunity to pivot.

Obama has turned the negotiating over to Reid. It's a loser and Obama's backed himself into a corner.

Obama's a faker's faker. He's a mere shadow of an empty suit. A schoolyard bully who runs at the first sign of manhood.

We’re not going to defund Obamacare. We’ve already had the vote to just postpone it a year. We’ve negotiated and, luckily, Obamacare is as bad as we said it was. This is a total Democratic rout. They’re losing and badly.

The reason Obama is pulling all these stunts is utter desperation. Think about it. What would you have done?

I’d have made a very public statement prior to shut down saying, “We’re not going to let the government shut down. I, as President of the United States, am asking all federal workers to stay at their desks, doing the work the American people want done. I will personally and officially guarantee that you will be paid. These games must stop.”

But, The One didn’t do that, because he can’t.

Someone on another thread nailed it. The term should be a “BLANK CHECK” bill. That’s all that will satisfy Harry & Barry.

I doubt the gop really realizes what is at stake. But maybe they’re beginning to get that prickly tingle at the back of their necks.

The way this should be working to get Bronco and the Reidocrats motivated is to cut a little more every time the House sends a modified measure back to the Senate. Start with , oh, say: CR minus Obamacare minus EPA 10%. Next time send that back minus another 10% from anything in Nevada. And so forth. The Boners not only must hold the line on spending but MUST learn how to play hardball. The House does indeed hold the piggy bank plug and has got to turn this financial Titanic around.

They passed how many “clean” resolutions so far? Not one of those resolutions for parks or vets or children said anything about Obamacare.
