The inability of Washington elected officials to work together is at the heart of the government shutdown that's hurting tens of thousands of federal workers in the city, Mayor Bloomberg said Sunday in his weekly radio address. And that failure to lead could soon affect critical Hurricane Sandy relief plans for the five boroughs, he said.
"Right now, Washington's gridlock is doing real harm to our nation's economy -- and if they don't get their acts together soon, New York City families, especially those who endured the worst from Hurricane Sandy, will feel real pain," he said.
Community Development Block Grants and other kinds of federal aid require need constant involvement of federal officials, Bloomberg said, and inevitable delays resulting from the shutdown will affect the efforts to help those who need it most.
In addition, infrastructure projects, such as coastal protection measures, could see delays. The city is also waiting for the second installment of Sandy recovery funds, he said. While the funding has been approved, the shutdown could also slow the delivery of the anticipated funding.
The city has about 27,000 workers employed by the federal government. "Many of those men and women are now furloughed, meaning that their families are going without income for every day this shut down lasts," he said.
Bloomberg did not single out any specific official. Instead, he called on members of both parties to work together to deliver results for those who elected them. "Unfortunately, unlike mayors, too many representatives in Washington act as if they can just take positions without considering the real-world consequences for real people," he said.
And then again it might not.
Bloomberg doesn't care about the suffering of hundreds of millions of Americans that will be forced to carry the yoke of Obamacare.
That won't happen because the obammy lapdog media is too concentrated on blaming Repubs and don't have a clue as to what is really happening.
If the GOP doesn’t cave they’ll only garner 1 out of every 10 instead of 9 New York City voters.
Hey Bloomtard, the rest of America doesn’t GAF about your pissy city.
I know Sandy caused a lot of damage and pain, but how long are they going to milk this storm?
That’s the point, Dummy.
Beat me too it!!!
So there’s a silver lining after all.
Bloomturd is the PITA for NY.
